Broncos Secure Five Mountain West Weekly Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Boise State gymnastics collected five Mountain West weekly accolades following its win over No. 22 Southern Utah on March 14.

Emily Lopez earned MW Co-Vault and Bars Specialist of the Week, Kristina Shchennikova picked up MW Co-Beam Specialist and Freshman of the Week, while Julia Melchert garnered MW Floor Specialist of the Week.

The specialist of the week honor is awarded to the highest-scoring athlete in each event weekly, while freshman of the week is given to the freshman with the highest score among all events.

Lopez scored a team-high 9.825 on vault and tied for third at the meet. The fifth year also claimed the bars title with a 9.925, marking her sixth this season and 19th of her career. Lopez now holds 19 MW weekly honors in total.

Melchert earned her first career floor title as she made her Boise State debut on floor with a career-high 9.925. The fifth year also notched her first MW weekly award.

Shchennikova secured her seventh and eighth MW weekly honors, three on beam and five freshman. The freshman notched a 9.875 on beam to earn the individual crown, marking her third of the season. Shchennikova also scored a 9.850 on bars at the same meet.

Boise State gymnastics will travel to San Jose, Calif., for the 2025 Mountain West Gymnastics Championships. The meet will take place on Saturday, March 22 at 3 p.m. MT as the Broncos take on Air Force, San Jose State and Utah State.
