Safarova Garners MW Player of the Week Honor

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Zdena Safarova was named the Mountain West Women's Player of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon.

The Prague, Czech Republic native claimed her second weekly award this season following two singles wins and one doubles win against No. 72 Fresno State and San Jose State. She is the fourth Bronco in program history to earn at least two career weekly awards.

Her impressive play began with a win at No. 1 doubles with partner Maya Dutta. The duo defeated Fresno State's Anjela Lopicic and Kalara Vukicevic, 6-3. She continued her dominance into singles, winning at the top spot against Matilde Magrini, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 to clinch the team win for Boise State.

Against the Spartans, Safarova earned another singles victory, this one over No. 111 Cheuk Ying Shek 6-4, 6-3. The sophomore was the only Bronco to win singles matches against both opponents.

Boise State will return to action with two weekend matches: the first at 11 a.m. MT on Friday, March 21 in Las Vegas against UNLV, and the second at noon on Sunday, March 23 in San Diego, California, against San Diego State.
