Degenhart, Cardenas Named to College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team

BOISE, Idaho — Tyson Degenhart and Alvaro Cardenas have been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, it was announced on Tuesday.
 
Selected by CSC members, the Academic All-District team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. All honorees must meet certain on-court requirements and have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
 
A three-time College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selection, Degenhart boasts a 3.92 cumulative GPA as a finance major. He's garnered the distinction in three consecutive years, dating back to the 2022-23 campaign.
 
Cardenas, who is majoring in interdisciplinary professional studies, has a 3.89 overall GPA. The Granada, Spain native takes home the honor for the first time in his collegiate career.
 
Both Cardenas and Degenhart have been named a finalist for College Sports Communicators Academic All-America and will advance to the national ballot which is voted on by CSC members. Honorees will be announced on April 15.
 
Starting all 34 games for the Broncos this season, Degenhart has posted averages of 17.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists. He's shooting 51.8 percent from the field while making nearly 80 percent of his free throw attempts.
 
One-of-22 players in NCAA Division I men's basketball to register at least 600 points and 200 rebounds, Degenhart and Clifford were the only players in the Mountain West to post those numbers. He totaled 13 20-point games and finished the season with the conference's third-highest points per game average (17.9).
 
Selected to the All-Mountain West first team for the third consecutive year, Degenhart is Boise State's all-time leading scorer. He currently has 1,971 career points.
 
In his only season with the Broncos, Cardenas has recorded 11.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 1.4 steals in 34.8 minutes per game. He is 1-of-4 NCAA Division I players this season to post those averages.
 
Among all players in men's college basketball, Cardenas has the seventh-most assists (237) and ranks seventh in assists per game (7.0). He owns Boise State's single-season record and is just the ninth player in Mountain West history to record at least 200 helpers in a campaign.
 
An All-Mountain West second-team selection, Cardenas currently has 609 career assists. He is 22 away from surpassing Hunter Maldonado (630) for second place on the conference's all-time leaderboard.
