BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State women's tennis team has been ranked No. 1 in the Mountain Region, while sophomore Zdena Safarova earned the top spot in singles, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced Wednesday in its final regional rankings.
Â
It marks the first time in program history that both the team and an individual player have finished the season ranked No. 1 in the region.
Â
The Mountain Region includes 21 teams and Boise State earned the top ranking after a historic season. The Broncos recorded 20 wins for the seventh time in program history, and the first since 2010, while capturing their first Mountain West Tournament Championship.
Â
The Broncos went on to qualify for the NCAA Tournament, where they defeated No. 22 Baylor, earning their first NCAA Tournament victory since 2010 and their highest-ranked win since topping No. 21 Iowa that same year.
Â
Safarova capped her first season at Boise State with a 32-3 overall singles record. She posted a 21-2 mark in dual matches, all at the No. 1 position. She set school records for the highest single-season singles win percentage and the most wins at the No. 1 singles spot.
