Álvaro Cárdenas Signs with Valencia Basket Club

After a year in the Treasure Valley, Álvaro Cárdenas is returning home, but this time, as a professional.
On June 6, Valencia (Spain) Basket announced the club signed Cárdenas to a two-year contract. Playing in the ACB League, which features some of the highest competition in Spain, Cárdenas will join the Taronja Club.
"This is a move made with an eye on the future," said Luis Arbalejo, the club's sporting director. "Álvaro has developed significantly during his time in the United States, emerging as a great passer in the playmaker role. We believe in his potential and want to support him in taking the right steps to continue growing and reach his full potential."
In his lone season at Boise State, Cárdenas started all 37 games and posted 11.5 points, 3.1 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 1.4 steals. He was 1-of-7 players in men's college basketball last season with those averages.
Producing a historic and record-breaking season, Cárdenas registered 256 assists during the 2024-25 campaign which was good for fifth most in the NCAA. He led the Mountain West in assists and broke Boise State's single-season record.
Cárdenas, who was named to the All-Mountain West Second Team, notched double-digit assists in five games and led the team in that category in 35-of-37 contests. In conference history, his 256 assists are the second most by a player in a single season.
Despite playing just 37 games in the Blue and Orange, Cárdenas is tied for 12th in program history in assists. Ten of the 11 players ahead of him appeared in at least 99 career games for Boise State.
One of the best assist men in Mountain West history, Cárdenas concluded his four-year career with 628. He trails only Isaiah Stevens (863) and Hunter Maldonado (630) in the conference record book.
