Broncos enter league alongside Florida State, South Carolina

IRVING, Texas – Boise State beach volleyball accepted an invitation to join the Big 12 Conference as an affiliate member, the conference announced on Wednesday.

The reigning Southland Conference champion will begin competing in the Big 12 for the 2026 spring season. The Broncos enter the conference alongside Florida State and South Carolina, joining incumbent members Arizona, Arizona State and defending national champion TCU.

"Joining the Big 12 after our epic year last season shows we are Bar Raisers at Boise State," said Jeramiah Dickey, Boise State Director of Athletics. "Coach Venardos, our coaches and staff, and our student-athletes have proven they can compete with the best and win championships, so joining a conference with the defending national champion and other elite level programs reinforces our commitment to elevating our Bronco experience. We appreciate our time in the Southland Conference and look forward to What's Next in the Big 12."

As part of the agreement, Boise State will compete in a midseason tournament and a double-elimination conference tournament, with the winner of the conference tournament earning an automatic bid to the 2026 NCAA Beach Volleyball National Championship. The 2026 Big 12 Beach Volleyball Championship will take place at Arizona in the spring. There are no other regular season scheduling obligations.

"Today marks a huge step forward for Boise State Beach Volleyball," head coach Alex Venardos said. "Every year, we have reached new milestones and now we are officially members of the Big 12 Conference. This transition is right on par with how we want our trajectory to keep heading. Our program has never been more ready and capable of taking on this new challenge and we have proven that we belong on a bigger stage."

BRONCO STUDIOS - BREAKING NEWS

Of the six schools in the conference, Boise State is one of three programs that participated in the NCAA Beach Volleyball National Championship a season ago. TCU earned a No. 2 seed and won the 2025 Beach Volleyball National Championship while Florida State earned a No. 8 seed, falling to top-seeded UCLA in the quarterfinal round. Three teams ended the season ranked in the final AVCA Collegiate Beach Poll (No. 1 TCU, No. 8 Florida State, No. 12 Arizona State) while the remaining three programs all received votes.

Boise State spent its previous three seasons as members of the Southland Conference after playing its first nine seasons without a conference affiliation. The Broncos finished as runners-up in their first two seasons as members of the SLC before claiming both the regular season and conference championship in 2025.

Approaching its 13th season as a program, Boise State is coming off its most successful season after earning its first NCAA National Championship appearance this past spring, falling to No. 3 Stanford in the opening round. The Broncos finished with their fourth consecutive 20-win season after posting a 23-12 record. Boise State has won 20-straight home contests, a streak that extends back to the 2021 season.

Boise State will compete in the fall for the fourth consecutive season. A fall schedule will be announced next week.
