Broncos Place Eight on College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State matched its program record from the 2024 season with eight players garnering College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors, the organization announced. Maddux Madsen, Marco Notarainni, Chase Penry, Carson Rasmussen, Jake Steele, Luke Voorhees, Matt Wagner and Zion Washington were recognized for their achievements on and off the field.

Madsen is a two-time CSC Academic All-District selection, maintaining a 3.79 GPA in interdisciplinary professional studies. The quarterback started 11 games for the Broncos, throwing for 2,334 yards and 18 touchdowns. He was named Offensive MVP of the Mountain West Championship, leading Boise State to a 38-21 win over UNLV with 299 total yards and four total touchdowns.

Also earning his second CSC Academic All-District selection is Notarainni, who was a CSC Academic All-American in 2024. The linebacker earned his degree in business administration with a 3.96 GPA. He started all 14 games for the Broncos this season, totaling 77 tackles, 6.0 TFLs, 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble. The captain tallied 192 tackles, including 18 for loss, over his Boise State career.

Penry earned his second CSC Academic All-District nod after obtaining his accountancy degree with a 3.58 GPA. He was the male recipient of Boise State's Academic Excellence Award, given to the student-athlete with the highest GPA in the graduating class. The wide receiver caught 30 passes for 394 yards and a touchdown in 2025. In the second half of the season, he totaled 26 catches for 354 yards.

Rasmussen secured his first CSC Academic All-District award with a 3.61 GPA in computer science. He appeared in all 14 games for the Broncos, primarily on special teams and goal line packages. The offensive lineman registered a 77.0 offensive grade and 79.9 run blocking grade on Pro Football Focus.

Steele earned the second CSC Academic All-District honor of his career and first as a Bronco. He secured his first award in 2023 while playing for San Jose State. He maintains a 3.92 GPA while pursuing a degree in kinesiology. The offensive lineman played in all 14 games this season, making one start. He saw time at right guard and right tackle, as well as special teams.

Voorhees is a two-time CSC Academic All-District selection, earning his degree in entrepreneurship management with a 3.94 GPA and maintaining the same GPA while pursuing his master's of business administration. He saw action in all 14 games this season, tallying a 7-yard reception and one tackle at Notre Dame.

Wagner secured his second CSC Academic All-District honor with a perfect 4.00 GPA in business administration. He played in all 14 games in 2025, starting 10. The tight end caught 24 passes for 251 yards and a touchdown, recording a career-high five receptions for 69 yards at Utah State and tallying a career-long 28-yard catch at Notre Dame. He played 588 offensive snaps, 10th-most on the team. 

Washington tallied the second CSC Academic All-District honor of his career after graduating with a 3.51 GPA in business administration. He started all 12 games in which he appeared, totaling 66 tackles, 2.5 TFLs, 1.0 sack and one interception. Against Colorado State, he totaled nine tackles, one sack and one interception. In his Boise State career, the safety notched 167 tackles, including 8.5 for loss.

To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District, student-athletes must maintain a GPA of at least 3.50 and appear in at least 90 percent of games or start at least 66 percent of games throughout the season.
