BOISE, Idaho — In the team's first exhibition action, Boise State defeated Idaho, 82-72, on Friday night at Idaho Central Arena.

Four Broncos scored in double figures, with Julian Bowie scoring a team-high 21 points. He shot 8-of-16 from the floor and added an assist and steal in the victory.

In his first game action as a Bronco, Dovydas Butka collected a double-double and recorded 18 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block. Aginaldo Neto registered 14 points, six rebounds, six assists and five steals, while Spencer Ahrens added 11 points.

Idaho was led by Kristian Gonzalez, who totaled a game-high 24 points on the strength of 11 made free throws. Kase Wynott added 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting, and Miles Klapper and Hudson Ward had combined for 21 points.

Boise State claimed the opening tip and scored six quick points at the outset. Following the under-16 media timeout, Idaho responded with a prompt 7-0 run and forged ahead by four.

Making two of his first four field goals, Bowie racked up seven quick points. He tallied a layup of the glass, along with a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws.

Down by one with 3:32 remaining in the opening half, the Broncos rattled off six-consecutive points, leading to an immediate 30-second timeout by Idaho. Thriving in transition after the stoppage, Neto and Bowie connected on three-straight layups, giving Boise State a five-point lead with the period winding down.

In a low-scoring first half, both teams combined for 61 points, with neither unit shooting over 40 percent. Boise State made just 10 field goals, but the tenacious defense forced Idaho into 16 turnovers, which led to 10 points.

Bowie, Butka and Neto carried the offense in the 20-minute session and had 26 of the Broncos' 32 points. Butka recorded the final five for Boise State, and the Broncos led 32-29 at the intermission.

To start the second half, Boise State scored 12 points in four minutes. With just over 13 minutes on the clock, Jerquarius Stanback gave the Broncos their first double-digit lead of the night on back-to-back transition dunks.

Boise State eventually pushed its lead to a dozen, which served as the team's largest of the evening. The Vandals, however, responded in kind and cut the Broncos' lead to one with 2:40 remaining in the game.

Clinging to a 72-71 advantage in the final minutes, Bowie gave the Broncos some breathing room. Crossing the 20-point threshold for the first time in his collegiate career, Bowie poured in his second triple of the evening to push the lead to four.

Down the stretch, Boise State scored 10 of the final 11 points. After shooting just 33 percent in the first half, the Broncos totaled 50 points in the final frame on 68 percent shooting.

In total, Boise State led for over 29 minutes and had seven Broncos crack the scoring column. The team forced 22 turnovers and collected 12 steals and four blocks in the win.
