Hawaii 5-0: Broncos Perfect on Day One of Hawaii Esports Invitational

Honolulu, Hawaii — Boise State Rocket League started the Hawaii Esports Invitational at breakneck pace, going a perfect 5-0 in group play to secure the top seed tomorrow in the main bracket. The Broncos faced Mountain West foes Hawaii and Grand Canyon, and PEC opponents Baylor, Michigan State, and Syracuse.
Match number one saw the Broncos take down Hawaii in a clean sweep. Strong play from Emiliano Flores, Cade Hall, and Preston Ferrante helped Boise State to a perfect start vs. the hosts. Next up was PEC foe Syracuse. The Broncos and Orange are more than familiar with each other this year, and the Broncos came out on top for the third time in as many matches, with yet another 3-0 sweep.
Mountain West newcomer Grand Canyon was next on the docket, and Flores, Hall and Ferrante dispatched the Lopes 3-1. A rematch of last years national title game vs. Michigan State also went to the Broncos, 3-1. The final match of the evening for Boise State was against the Baylor Bears. A showdown between two of the top squads in the country did not dissapoint, and the series needed all five games to decide a winner. The Bears took game one, but the Broncos bounced back and nabbed games two and three. Baylor had no interest in taking the loss laying down, and they stormed back for a four goal win in game four, bringing the series to the lauded game five decider. The action did not disapoint, and in the end, the Broncos came away victorious.
Bracket play starts tomorrow, and the Broncos await their first match up. Head Coach Doc Haskell isn't worried about who his squad faces tomorrow: "We are unaffect4ed by success or failure, and we are never satisfied. It doesn't matter who's on the other side."
