Safarova Tabbed MW Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Boise State women's tennis player Zdena Safarova was named Mountain West Player of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.

The award marks Safarova's fifth career Mountain West weekly honor after earning four during the 2025 season.

The Prague, Czech Republic, native went undefeated at No. 1 singles and doubles, helping the Broncos secure wins over Colorado State and Wyoming.

Safarova opened the weekend with a straight-set victory over Colorado State's Luana Avelar, 7-5, 6-0.

Against Wyoming, Safarova and partner Tereza Polakova battled to a 7-6 (6) win to clinch the doubles point. Safarova then added another straight-set victory, defeating Silver Bijlsma 7-6 (2), 6-1. Both wins proved crucial in the Broncos' 4-3 victory.

Safarova, who has won five consecutive singles matches at No. 1, will return to competition this weekend, facing Grand Canyon on March 20 at 11 a.m. MT and San Diego State on March 22 at 10 a.m. Both matches will be played at the Appleton Tennis Center.
