BOISE, Idaho— For collectibles fans who have long coveted a piece of the iconic blue turf that announced Boise State 40 years ago, the wait is over. To commemorate The Blue's 40th anniversary, Boise State Athletics is partnering with CollectU, which turns athletic facility renovations into collectible merchandise and new revenue streams, to create a series of limited-edition pieces from college football's most iconic turf. The pre-sale kicks off Thursday, two days before the Broncos spring game, with a mix of auction items and others for immediate purchase.Â
"Forty years ago, (former AD) Gene Bleymaier made a bold, forward-thinking decision that would forever change the identity of our university, our city, and our state," said Boise State Athletic Director Jeramiah Dickey. "The Blue represents something bigger than ourselves, and it brings people in from all 50 states and from around the world to experience Boise State, Boise and Idaho. We are the Front Porch of Idaho, and we are proud to share a piece of the Boise State brand as we look forward to What's Next."

The ultimate Broncos fan can bid on the installation of the authentic blue turf throughout their entire fan cave, starting with a minimum $25,000 bid. Other auction items include the blue turf 40-yard line, the "2" from the 20-yard line in honor of Boise State legend Ashton Jeanty, and the first print of a stunning limited-edition line-art rendering of Albertsons Stadium by artist Brandon Steele.Â
Limited-edition items for immediate purchase include collectible swatches of The Blue with a QR code to communicate the video history of the turf for $40, commemorative rings infused with the blue turf, and the original 1986 blue turf collectible shadowbox signed by Gene Bleymeier.Â
Future auction items will include marquee turf sections — several different yard lines, sections of the end zone and ultimate fan cave and landscape makeovers integrating The Blue into fans' homes quite literally.Â
A portion of the proceeds supports the mission of Boise State Athletics.
In October 2025, Boise State announced a $1.5 million anonymous gift to install new blue field turf on Lyle Smith Field at Albertsons Stadium. Shortly after, Boise State began working with CollectU to create a unique collection available to fans.
The Broncos join the Pac-12 Conference on July 1.
Current plans call for The Blue to be removed in mid-June, and a new field will be installed by Sept. 12, the first home football game versus Memphis.Â
