Guard joins Boise State from Illinois

BOISE, Idaho — Boise State has agreed to terms and signed guard Ty Rodgers, it was announced on Friday.
 
Rodgers (6-6, 210 pounds) joins the Broncos after spending four collegiate seasons (2022-26) at Illinois. He appeared in 71 games (38 starts) from 2022-24 before missing the last two years.
 
In his last game action as a sophomore, Rodgers started all 38 games played and helped guide Illinois to a 29-9 overall record and an appearance in the NCAA Elite Eight. That season, he averaged 6.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 52.7 percent (98-186 FGs) from the field.
 
After high school graduation, Rodgers suited up for USA Basketball, where he played with multiple current NBA players, including Stephon Castle (San Antonio), Jared McCain (Oklahoma City) and Cam Whitmore (Washington). Coached by Boise State head coach Leon Rice, who was an assistant under Tad Boyle, Rodgers averaged 5.3 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists en route to Team USA's run to the gold medal.
 
A native of Saginaw, Michigan, Rodgers attended Thornton Township High School in Harvey, Illinois and averaged 17.3 points, 15.4 rebounds, eight assists, three steals and three blocks as a senior under head coach Tai Streets. Prior to Thornton Township, Rodgers starred at Grand Blanc High School, where he led the school to its first state championship in 2021 and was the Michigan Division I Player of the Year by the Associated Press.
 
Rodgers, a four-star recruit, was highly ranked among all players in his 2022 graduation class. He was ranked No. 52 by ESPN, No. 53 by 247Sports Composite, No. 59 by Rivals and No. 64 by On3 Consensus.
