Ten Broncos Earn CSC Academic All-District Recognition

BOISE, Idaho – Ten Boise State student-athletes received academic all-district recognition, the Collegiate Sports Communicators announced on Tuesday.
Four members of the beach volleyball program (Allyson Alden, Avery Allen, Ava Anderson and Addison Wolden), four members from the men's golf team (Luke Cushman, Chase Gorder, Ryan Meyer and Cole Rueck), and two members of the women's golf program (Leia Chung and Teal Matsueda), earned the honor.Â
The award is given to student-athletes that perform at an elite level in the classroom and in their respective sport. The 10 athletes were represented on the CSC's At-Large Team, which encompasses 23 Division I sports. To be eligible for CSC academic honors, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and earn a cumulative GPA of over 3.5.
Beach Volleyball
Alden earned the distinction for the second consecutive season, notching a 3.952 cumulative GPA and graduating with a Masters in business administration in May. The San Marcos, Calif., native put together an impressive season in her final campaign donning the Blue and Orange. She was one of four players that generated over 20 victories on the year, finishing with a 22-13-1 mark on the season. She recorded eight wins over ranked foes and her 13 wins from the No. 1 position are the fourth-most in a single season. Off the court, she founded the Block Party, a fundraising campaign generated to raise money and awareness around mental health, and was recognized on the Allstate NACDA Good Works Team.
Allen, a psychology major with a 4.0 GPA, earned the recognition for the first time in her career. Hailing from Mahomet, Ill., the sophomore finished the season with a 22-14 record, including seven victories over ranked opponents. She was named the Big 12 Pair of the Week alongside Keira Demirjian on March 24 after posting a 4-0 mark at the Death Volley Invitational, which included three victories over ranked opponents.
Anderson received the honor for the third consecutive season. The Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., native graduated in May with a health studies degree and a 3.772 cumulative GPA. The senior became the program's all-time wins leader, ending her career with 85 total victories. She went 24-12 over the course of the season, tying Wolden for the most victories on the team. She earned Big 12 Player of the Week recognition alongside Wolden on April 14 following a 4-0 mark at the Boise State Beach Bash.
Wolden earned the recognition for the second straight season. A media communications major with a 3.819 GPA, the junior posted a 24-12 mark on the season, tied with Anderson for the most victories on the team. The Denver, Colo., native defeated nine ranked opponents on the year and finished the year with 78 career victories, the fourth-most in program history. She earned Big 12 Pair of the Week accolades alongside Anderson on April 14 after the duo finished with an undefeated 4-0 record at the Boise State Beach Bash.
Men's Golf
Cushman, for the second-straight year, earned CSC Academic All-District honors for his outstanding work in the classroom. A junior business administration major, Cushman is sporting an impressive 3.953 GPA as an undergraduate student. Hailing from Castle Rock, Colo., Cushman, played in 9-of-12 events, including the Mountain West Championship. He logged 27 rounds as a junior and placed in the top 25 three times.
Gorder, a kinesiology major, currently has a 3.717 cumulative GPA. Named CSC Academic All-District for the first time in his collegiate career, Gorder saw action in eight events, a personal career best. In 24 rounds, Gorder posted a 72.04 scoring average and placed in the top 25 on two occasions. Additionally, Gorder participated in the Mountain West Championship for the first time and shot under par in two of the three rounds.
Meyer, the longest-tenured Bronco, earned his degree after posting a 3.675 GPA as a psychology major. A native of Oakdale, Calif., Meyer played in eight events, including the final three. He collected his third top-10 finish of his career in the Oregon State Invitational and tied a personal career best for lowest three-round score in the Ka'anapali Classic. He logged 23 rounds in his final year, the second most in his tenure.
Rueck, who sported a 3.686 undergraduate GPA as a finance major, garnered CSC Academic All-District honors for the third-consecutive year. A native of Corvallis, Ore., Rueck appeared in 10 team events as a senior before beginning his professional career. He captured two individual championships, seven top-10 finishes and shot par-or-better in 22 of his 30 rounds. Named All-Mountain West in his final collegiate season, Rueck is the only Bronco to earn the honor three times in his career. Â
Women's Golf
Chung holds a 3.892 GPA while pursuing a degree in Accountancy & Finance. A native of Wahiawa, Hawai'i, the redshirt junior compiled one of the most impressive seasons in program history. She won a school-record three individual titles, including the Mountain West Championship, making her the second Bronco to capture a conference crown. She became the third player in program history to qualify for an NCAA Regional, tying for 24th at Stanford. Her season scoring average of 72.24 is the second-lowest in school history and she became the first Bronco to earn All-MW First Team honors.
Matsueda maintains a 3.995 GPA as a Business major. Hailing from Kaimuki, Hawai'i, the junior competed in all 11 tournaments for the Blue and Orange. Her season scoring average of 74.37 ranks eighth in program history. She posted five top-25 finishes, including a career-best fifth-place finish at the Juli Inkster Invitational. Her career-best 213 (-3) at the New Mexico State Golf Iconic Classic gave her an eighth-place finish, helping Boise State earn the team title. This is the second-consecutive season she has earned CSC Academic All-District honors.
