Boise State Athletics Adds Mayer and Whitmer to Leadership Team

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State Athletics announced today that Matt Mayer, senior associate athletic director and chief financial officer, and Tyler Whitmer, senior associate athletic director for performance and culture, have been added to the department's leadership team, strengthening the organization's structure as it prepares for the next chapter of Bronco Athletics.
Mayer and Whitmer bring extensive institutional knowledge, leadership experience and a shared commitment to Boise State's student-athletes and coaches. Their expanded roles will help position the department for continued growth and long-term success across all 18 sport programs and more than 350 student-athletes, while helping Boise State navigate the opportunities ahead with its transition to the Pac-12 Conference.

Matt has been a tremendous asset as we have navigated the transition to the Pac-12 Conference and managed our budget while Tyler will strengthen the culture of not only our teams but our entire department staff!"
Mayer joined Boise State Athletics in November 2016 and has advanced through the department's business operations, from assistant athletic business manager to his current role as senior associate athletic director and chief financial officer (CFO).
As CFO, Mayer provides leadership for the department's financial strategy and oversees the athletics budget, business operations and finance teams. He also oversees the annual audit and prepares financial reports for the State Board of Education, NCAA and Department of Education. Mayer additionally serves as the primary sport administrator for women's tennis.
Mayer earned a master's degree in athletic leadership from Boise State and a bachelor's degree in finance and economics from the University of Idaho.
Whitmer returned to Boise State Athletics in May and oversees all aspects of men's basketball sport performance while serving as the team's primary sport administrator. Whitmer's role includes building and leading a strong, unified culture across Boise State Athletics and works closely with coaches and staff to support student-athlete and team development.
Whitmer first joined Boise State in January 2018 and progressed from associate director of sports performance to director of sports performance from 2018-22, before serving as assistant athletic director for sports performance, health and wellness and Olympic sports performance from 2022-25. He recently worked with Teamworks and previously held positions at Oral Roberts (2013-18), MidAmerica Nazarene (2012-13) and Denver (2011).
Whitmer earned a master's degree in exercise physiology from Kansas and a bachelor's degree in sports medicine from Colorado State.
Boise State will open the new year of competition with women's soccer hosting its season-opening match at Boas Soccer Complex against CSUN on Wednesday.
Volleyball will open the 2026 campaign on the road in Asheville, North Carolina, with matches against Middle Tennessee and UNC Asheville (Aug. 28-29). The Broncos open their home slate with the Boise State Classic (Sept. 3-5), BYU (Sept. 7) and the Boise State Invitational (Sept. 10-12) in ExtraMile Arena, the first time volleyball returns to the arena since 2002. The first tournament will feature matches against UNLV, Idaho State and North Dakota State. The second tournament will see the Broncos take on Saint Mary's, Sacramento State and Eastern Washington.
Football opens at Oregon on Sept. 5 before opening the home schedule on Sept. 12 against Memphis.
