Bush Hamdan
Bush Hamdan
  • Title:
    Offensive Coordinator / Quarterbacks
Bush Hamdan spent the 2023 season as the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at Boise State, guiding the Broncos to a tie for the regular season Mountain West championship then a dominating win in the Mountain West Championship Game, securing a bid to the LA Bowl.

In his first season guiding the Bronco offense, Hamdan has led an explosive unit that has had one of its most successful seasons in recent years. He guided the team to nine-straight games scoring 30 or more points, matching national semifinalists Michigan and Texas for the second-longest streak in the nation and the longest such streak for the Blue and Orange since 2011. The Broncos were second in the MW in scoring offense while ranking third in total offense.

He also directed an offensive unit that saw Ashton Jeanty awarded All-America honors as well as being named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year. One of the most dynamic tailbacks in the nation, Jeanty ranks second nationally in yards from scrimmage (1,814) and all-purpose yards per game (164.91) while averaging 4.7 yards per run after contact and 14.4 yards after catch per reception, both of which lead the nation. The team's rushing success, which ranks sixth nationally at 214.8 yards per game, was due in part to an offensive line that ranks 12th in the nation allowing only 1.08 sacks per game while converting 80% of fourth downs, a mark that ranks third nationally.

An alumnus of Boise State, Hamdan was a quarterback for the Broncos from 2004-08. His first season as a coach in the Treasure Valley was his 15th year of coaching, returning home following a three-year stint at Missouri where he coached wide receivers (2020-21) and quarterbacks (2020-22). The Tigers earned a bowl bid in each season Hamdan was on staff and Missouri ranked 32nd nationally in passing offense in 2020.

Hamdan began his coaching career as a student assistant with Colorado in 2009 and served as offensive intern with Maryland the following season. In 2011, he coached tight ends at Sacramento State on a staff that included former Bronco Andy Avalos as a graduate assistant.

In 2012, Hamdan mentored wide receivers at Florida, including four players who went onto the NFL (Andre Debose, Quinton Dunbar, Frankie Hammond and Solomon Patton). The Gators went 11-2 and played in the Sugar Bowl that season.

Hamdan was the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Arkansas State in 2013 when the Red Wolves won the Sun Belt title and the GoDaddy Bowl.

After a season as the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at Davidson, Hamdan reunited with his college coach Chris Petersen as an offensive quality control coach at Washington in 2015.

Petersen promoted Hamdan to wide receivers coach/pass game coordinator the following season. The Huskies won the Pac-12 and reached the College Football Playoff. John Ross III and Dante Pettis combined to set a Pac-12 record with a combined 32 touchdowns receiving. Ross was named an All-American and selected as the No. 9 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft while Pettis went in the second round.

Hamdan served as Washington's offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach in 2018-19. The Huskies won the Pac-12 in 2018 and registered 3,337 yards passing, the fourth-most in school history. Quarterback Jacob Eason was a fourth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The Huskies went to the Rose Bowl following the ‘18 season and won the Las Vegas Bowl in 2019.

In between stints at Washington, Hamdan was the quarterbacks coach for the Atlanta Falcons. Matt Ryan threw for over 4,000 yards and the Falcons reached the divisional round of the 2017 NFC playoffs.

Hamdan was a three-year letterwinner and two-time team captain as a quarterback at Boise State from 2006-08. His last three seasons, all played under Petersen, the Broncos posted a 35-4 overall record, including a perfect 13-0 mark and a win over Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl in 2006. As a senior, he earned the Bronco Excellence Award for integrity and leadership.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from Boise State in 2008 and received his master’s in athletic administration from Idaho State in 2009.

The Gaithersburg, Maryland, native was a standout high school quarterback and baseball player at Bishop O’Connell High in Arlington, Virginia. He passed for more than 4,000 yards and 40 touchdowns on his way to being named an All-Metro. His brother, Gibran, played quarterback at Indiana and in the NFL. Gibran was drafted by the Redskins in 2003 and spent time on the active rosters at Washington, San Francisco and Seattle while also earning NFL Europe MVP in 2006 as a member of the Rhein Fire.
