Tyler Stockton joined Boise State in 2024 and serves as the co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach.

Stockton, a Broyles Award nominee in 2020, 2022 and 2023, helped Boise State win the Mountain West championship in his first season with the Broncos and reach the College Football Playoff Quarterfinal at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl. The Bronco defense closed out the regular season by averaging 16.0 points allowed in the final four games and Mountain West championship game.

Stockton tutored Ty Benefield, who led the team in tackles and interceptions, and Alexander Teubner to earn All-Mountain West Honorable Mention in 2024.

Recognized on ESPN’s "45 Minority Coaches Under 45" list and the AFCA’s 35 Under 35, Stockton was a member of the Ball State coaching staff from 2019-23 and led the Cardinal defense to top-25 national rankings in total defense (21st) and rush defense (20th) in his final year.

Stockton was Ball State’s defensive coordinator for four seasons (2020-23) and co-defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach for his first season in 2019. He added the title of assistant head coach starting in 2022.

Stockton also helped Ball State claim the 2020 MAC Championship and its first bowl victory in program history (Arizona Bowl), and its first year-end rankings in the AP and Coaches polls. That season, at age 30, he was the second-youngest FBS defensive coordinator and a Broyles Award nominee for the first time. His defenses consistently ranked among the nation’s best, forcing turnovers and producing 10 All-MAC selections, including MAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year Brandon Martin.

Before Ball State, Stockton spent three years at Western Illinois, culminating with a stint as the defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach in 2018 and leading a top-25 FCS defense. He was defensive line coach and defensive run game coordinator for Western Illinois in 2016 and 2017. He began his coaching career as a defensive graduate assistant at UConn (2014-15), where he helped guide a top-15 scoring defense and a bowl appearance.

A Notre Dame alumnus, Stockton was a five-year defensive lineman for the Irish, contributing to two bowl victories and the 2013 BCS National Championship appearance. He earned both his bachelor's degree and an MBA in corporate finance from Notre Dame.

Stockton and his wife, Haley, have two children, Everett and Belle.
