Valerian Ume-Ezeoke

Valerian Ume-Ezeoke joins the Boise State coaching staff as a graduate assistant ahead of the 2019 season.
Ume-Ezeoke spent the 2018 season at UMass, where he began the season as a defensive graduate assistant before being promoted to interim defensive line coach in October. Under Ume-Ezeoke’s tutelage, Minuteman defensive lineman Jake Byczko finished second on the team with 3.5 sacks and combined with Joe Previte and Mario Patton to record 16.0 tackles-for-loss.
Ume-Ezeoke played four seasons at New Mexico State (2011-14), where he was a three-year starter at center and a two-time nominee for the Rimington Trophy (2013-14), given annually to college football’s top center. He was named to the All-Sun Belt First Team following his senior season in 2014.
Following his career in Las Cruces, Ume-Ezeoke signed with the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons as a UDFA in 2015. He spent time with the Falcons before moving on to play with the Arizona Cardinals and Pittsburgh Steelers.
After the conclusion of his professional playing career, he spent a year as a brand ambassador for the NFL Players Association and served as an intern for the Football Players Health Study at Harvard during the spring and summer of 2017.
Ume-Ezeoke graduated from New Mexico State with his bachelor’s degree in public health in spring 2015, also being a Graduate of Crimson Scholar with Honors.
