Inducted into the Boise State Hall of Fame in 1985


John Smith was one of the most versatile and explosive running backs ever to play at Boise State University. Smith’s versatility is exemplified by the fact that he currently ranks 5th on the BSU all-time career rushing charts and 7th on the BSU all-time career pass receiving charts. Smith also ranks 1st on the average yards earned rushing for a career with 6.2 yards per attempt and ranks 1st on the average yards earned receiving for a career with 18.1 yards per reception. In 1975 Smith was selected First Team Kodak All-American and was selected in the third round of the NFL draft by the Dallas Cowboys.
