ANDREW BROWNING NAMED SECOND TEAM ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN

            BOISE, Idaho Defensive tackle Andrew Browning has been an outstanding member of the Boise State University football team throughout his career as a Bronco, and at the same time he has excelled in the classroom.  Those efforts away from the field were rewarded this week when he selected to the second team of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America team. 

            A senior from Lake Oswego, Ore., Browning is a three-year starter in the defensive line and has a 3.31 grade-point-average in Communication at Boise State. 

            Browning has made 40 total tackles this season, and leads the team in tackles for loss and quarterback sacks.  He has made 10 tackles behind the line of scrimmage for a loss of 50 yards, with eight of those tackles quarterback sacks. 

            This past week he was named the WAC Defensive Player of the Week for his effort in Boise State’s 38-7 in at the University of Nevada.  In the game Browning made seven tackles, four tackles for loss, three quarterback sacks and forced one fumble.

            Browning, along with teammate’s punter Kyle Stringer and defensive end Nick Schlekeway were named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 8 team in early November. 

            Browning was the only player from the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) to make either the first or second academic All-America teams this year.

            The academic All-America teams are voted on by selected members of the College Sports Information Director of America (CoSIDA).
