Kokoulina, Thongdach Advance to Doubles Final of ITA Central Regional

TULSA, Okla. The Boise State women’s tennis team completed day four of the ITA Women’s Tennis Central Regional held on the campus of the University of Tulsa. The Broncos were represented by Polina Kokoulina and Pichittra Thongdach who earned their way to the open doubles final on Sunday. Kokoulina also participated in the consolation singles bracket on Saturday.

The No. 7 seeded BSU duo earned their first of two wins in the quarterfinals, defeating Brigham Young University’s Ele Carney and Anastasia Syrkovg, the No. 4 seed, by default. The duo went on to top Wichita State’s Florentina Hanisch and Lenore Lazariou in an 8-2 decision in the semifinals earning a ticket to the finals on Sunday. The Broncos will take on No. 3 seeded Ela Kalunder and Aurelija Misevcuite of Arkansas after the singles finals at 9 a.m.

In singles action, No. 5 seed Kokoulina was the sole Bronco to play on Saturday. Kokolina dropped a tough 6-2, 2-6, 10-7 match to No. 2 seed, Anette Aksdal of Denver in the consolation quarterfinals.

The Broncos will complete their five day competition on Sunday with the open doubles final round. The winners of the open singles and open doubles competitions will earn their way to the ITA Women’s Tennis Indoor Championships in November.
