BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State football team found itself near the top of the Bowl Championship Series standings once again, Thursday (Dec. 16), this time for its success off the playing field however, as the No. 2 program in the fourth annual Academic BCS Rankings.

The Academic BCS Rankings, presented by Higher Ed Watch, uses several calculations to estimate how the final regular season BCS top 25 teams are faring academically. Of the current BCS top 25 teams, Boise State trails only Stanford in the race to be the top academic performing program. Stanford accumulated a score of 94.0. Boise State (86.7) is trailed by Nebraska (84.7), TCU (81.0) and Utah (75.7) to round out the top five.

The two basic components of the formula are federal graduation rates and academic progress rates (APRs). Four federal graduation rates are factored into the calculation along with each team's APR.

For the second consecutive year Boise State has finished in the top five of the Academic BCS Rankings. In 2009 the Broncos finished fourth behind Penn State, Stanford and Cincinnati.

Boise State, which finished the regular season ranked No. 10 by the BCS, is currently in preparation for a showdown with No. 19 Utah in the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas XIX, Dec. 22 (Wednesday), in Las Vegas, Nev. Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. (MST). The game will air on ESPN.
