FLUSHING, N.Y.-Boise State men's tennis senior Damian Hume began his stint at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships with a three-set loss, Thursday, in Flushing, N.Y. Hume fell to Alex Musialek of Kentucky, the 20th-ranked player in the country. The tournament is being played at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Hume dropped the first set 6-0 before rebounding for a tiebreak win to force a third set. Musialek was too strong in the decisive game, taking a 6-3 decision. Hume, ranked No. 63, qualified for the tournament after an impressive title run at the ITA Mountain Region Championships Oct. 19-23, in Las Vegas. Musialek was the Ohio Valley Region Champion.
Hume will return to the court Friday, against No. 16 Daniel Nguyen in consolation action. Nguyen, from three-time defending national champion USC, lost to the tournament's number one seed (Mitchell Frank) in the first round.
It is the ninth time in the last 10 years Boise State has been represented at the prestigious, 32-man tournament.
