
Boise State Takes 15th at Bandon Dunes Championship

BANDON, Ore. (3/12/2011) - Boise State University’s men’s golf team finished in 15th-place this weekend at the Bandon Dunes Championship in Bandon, Ore. The Broncos struggled during their third tournament of the spring carding a three-round total of 965 (+101) at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. Senior Chris Byrne led the team with a final tally of 19-over 235 (76-79-80), good for a tie at 62nd.
The University of Washington won the team competition with a final score of 7-over-par 871 (281-285-305). Golfweek’s No. 27 ranked Huskies won the tournament by eight strokes over No. 37 Oregon who recorded a 15-over 879 (282-299-298).
Boise State recorded its top round of the event during yesterday’s first round with a 24-over 312. The Broncos followed that with a 328 (+40) on the second 18 Friday afternoon and today’s final round score of 325 (+37).
On the individual side of the tournament, Washington swept the first two positions with Charlie Hughes taking the medalist honors with a 6-under 210, out pacing teammate Chris Williams who finished at even-par 216.
Byrne was Boise State’s top golfer at the competition recording his best total on the opening 18 holes Friday with a 4-over 76. He shot a 7-over 79 on the second 18 and a 8-over 80 during today’s final round. The Boise native finished tied for 62nd-place with a 19-over 235.
Rounding out the Broncos’ scoring at Bandon Dunes was junior Scott Spiewak at 26-over 242, sophomore Taeksoo Kim at 29-over 245, freshman Minwoo Park with a 32-over 248 and junior Taylor Porter at 36-over 252. Sophomore Clayton Kosanovich competed as an individual at the tournament finishing with a 31-over 247.
