BOISE, Idaho - Lexie Der and Miquelle Askew combined for 34 points to lead Boise State to a hard fought victory over instate-rival Idaho State 72-70 in a women's basketball game at Taco Bell Arena in Boise. The game was a battle from the start with eight ties and 15 lead changes as neither team could pull away from the other. Boise State's largest lead was eight points late in the first half, while Idaho led by six with just under five minutes to play.

Down six at 66-60 with 4:45 to play, Boise State rallied with a 7-0 run powered by 3-pointers from Brooke Pahukoa and Der. Der's 3-pointer tied the score at 66 while Yaiza Rodriguez gave the Broncos the lead for good with a free throw (1-of-2) with 2:34 to play. Boise State extended its lead to three, 71-68, as Der hit her final field goal of the contest with 1:26 remaining.

Jasmine Lemon drove into the key and converted on a layup with 1:07 left to pull ISU to within one at 71-70. Rodriguez then split a pair of free throws with 20 seconds remaining to give Boise State the final two point victory margin. Idaho State had a last second chance to win it but a Rebecca Schrimpsher shot fell short as the Broncos held on for the win over their rivals in the 67th meeting all-time in the series.

Der led all scorers with 19 points making 8-of-12 shots from the floor with three 3-pointers. She added five rebounds, one assist and one steal in 24 foul plagued minutes. Sophomore center Miquelle Askew followed Der with 15 points going 7-of-15 from the court, while grabbing five boards.

Keiahnna Engel and Brooke Pahukoa each chipped in with nine points, followed by Kenna McDavis and Kayla Reinhart with eight apiece. McDavis also recorded the team-high on the boards with six rebounds.

The Broncos converted 21 ISU turnovers into a 24-10 advantage in points off turnovers, while giving the ball away only 15 times to the Bengals. ISU controlled the paint where they out scored Boise State by 10, 34 to 24.

Boise State finished the night shooting 40 percent from the floor, 31.8 percent (7-22) from the arc and a season-low 59.1 percent (13-22) from the free-throw line. Idaho State answered by hitting 45.5 percent from the court, 23.5 percent (4-17) from beyond the arc and 55.2 percent (16-29) from the charity stripe.
