BOISE, Idaho (12/10/14) - Boise State extended its home win streak to six games following a dominating 91-40 women's basketball victory over the College of Idaho Coyotes Wednesday night in Taco Bell Arena. Miquelle Askew led the Broncos with 12 points followed by Camille Redmon and Keiahnna Engel with 10 points each. After a sluggish start that saw the Broncos down 17-14, Boise State caught fire rolling off a 21-4 run midway through the first half to take control of the game and never looked back after that key run. The 40 points allowed by the Broncos are the fewest since Boise State defeated Western Oregon 76-40 on Nov. 13, 2009.

The win in the Broncos first contest of a four-game homestand improved Boise State to 6-3 overall. Next up is Eastern Washington Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the first game of a doubleheader with the men's team.

"I was real appreciative of the College of Idaho agreeing to play us on short notice. We wanted to pick up another game since we only had two more non-conference games the rest of December before we open Mountain West play with Colorado State," said coach Gordy Presnell. "I thought the rebounding was big, especially the offensive rebounding where we got 22 of them, which was really good for us. Our size was a big advantage and I thought they wore down over the course of the game. We played well overall and it was a good team effort all around."

Askew led the Broncos shooting 6-of-9 from the floor to finish with 12 points, along with five rebounds and two blocks in 25 minutes of action. Redmon added 10 points shooting 4-of-6 from the floor and 2-of-3 from the free-throw line. She added four rebounds, one block and one steal in 18 minutes. Engel was the third Bronco to reached double-figure points tallying 10 on the night, in addition to one board, two assists and two steals.

Seven Broncos recorded eight or more points in the game as everyone scored who played in the contest. Perhaps the biggest highlight was walk-on senior Hailey Laird from Parma, Idaho, draining three consecutive 3-pointers in the final five minutes of the game to record a career-high nine points.

Brooke Pahukoa finished with nine points on three treys. Freshman Shalen Shaw also had nine points, as well as tying for the team-high on the glass with seven rebounds. Julia Dufurrena added eight points and three rebounds. Deanna Weaver was pulled early in the second half as the Bronco lead grew, she finished with five points, team-high (tied) seven rebounds and a team-best five assists.

Boise State hit 12 3-pointers during the game, the second-most this year. Kayla Reinhart and Yaiza Rodriguez Ortego each added two to the Bronco attack from beyond the arc.

On the night, Boise State shot 46 percent (36-of-78) from the floor, 35 percent (12-of-34) from the arc and 70 percent (7-of-10) from the free-throw line. The Broncos dominated the glass 46-to-31 in rebounds with 22 offensive boards, which were good for a 26-to-3 advantage in second chance points. The Blue and Orange also forced 25 Coyote turnovers which resulted in a 35-to-2 advantage in points off turnovers.

The College of Idaho finished the contest shooting 30 percent (16-of-53) from the floor, 20 percent (5-of-25) from the arc and 75 percent (3-of-4) from the charity stripe. Jamiece Yizar and Haylee Burnham led the Coyotes with eight points each.

The first half saw the Broncos open slow, struggling to get any momentum going. With 13:23 on the clock and Boise State down 17-14 to the Coyotes, the Broncos came to life. They rolled off a 13-0 run which started with a Rodriguez Ortego 3-pointer from the high right wing. She hit a second trey in the middle of the run as Boise State raced out to a 27-17 advantage with 7:30 to go.

Boise State kept the tempo going up and down the floor as they slowly stretched the run out. The Broncos finished the period out scoring the Coyotes 29-7 in the last 13:23 to take a 19-point 43-24 lead into halftime. Askew led the blue and orange with 10 points in the first 20 minutes on 5-of-5 shooting from the floor.

The dominance continued in the second stanza as Boise State opened on a 21-4 run to take a 64-28 advantage with 10:27 to play. The Broncos defense held the C of I to six points in the first 10 minutes of the period. Boise State eventually took a game-high 53 point lead with 33 seconds left in the game up 91-38.
