Eva Herrera signed a National Letter of Intent with Boise State women's soccer, head coach Jim Thomas announced Wednesday. Herrera is a native of San Diego, where she attends La Costa Canyon High School and plays for San Diego Surf. She is a forward.
"Eva is a phenomenally gifted athlete and throughout the process one who we felt has just gotten better and better," said Thomas. "She plays on one of the best teams in the country. She's tall and has a wonderful gait to the way she runs. She's very good at striking the ball and in the air. Typically taller players struggle with tight control but she's very good in that area as well."
On the club circuit, Herrera plays for San Diego Surf under coach Pauly Dolinsky. In 2014, Herrera helped Surf earn one of four coveted spots at the Elite Club National League U16 National Finals. So far this season, Surf is leading the Southwest Conference standings while Herrera has three goals and six assists through 10 matches.
Herrera guided her high school team at La Costa Canyon to a runner-up finish at the 2014 CIF Division II Southern California Regional Championship after winning the title at the CIF-San Diego Section Open Division Championship against Westview High which was led by fellow Bronco signee Laura Buck.
Herrera carries a 3.72 grade-point average and plans to study biology at Boise State. She also enjoys playing beach volleyball in her spare time.
