COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -
After just one meet as a collegiate student-athlete, freshman Allie Ostrander has been named the Mountain West Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week after winning the individual title at the Dual in Speedway Meadow.

The Kenai, Alaska, native finished the 6-kilometer course in 20:44.4, leading the Broncos to the 21-36 victory in the dual meet over San Francisco this past weekend at Golden Gate Park on Friday, Sept. 11. Ostrander's first-place finish led a 1-2-3 performance for the women's team with Minttu Hukka taking second in 20:58.3 and Brenna Peloquin crossing the line in 21:00.4 for third place.

Ostrander is just the 14th freshman in Mountain West Women's Cross Country history to earn athlete of the week honors. She is the first freshman to earn the honor since 2010 when Wyoming's Christine Nelson was tabbed the athlete of the week on Sept. 21. In addition, she is the first Bronco women's cross country athlete to win the accolade as a freshman in school history.

Ostrander is currently en route to Snowdonia, North Wales where she will race for Team USA in the World Mountain Running Junior Championships. Broncosports.com will have a story within the next day with more information in regards to the championships.
