COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. â€"
Boise State cross country's Michael Vennard was named the Mountain West Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week after taking fourth place at the Sagebrush Invitational in Logan, Utah this past Saturday. The honor is the first career weekly accolade for Vennard, a native of Cheshire, England.

The junior ran a 21:10 on the 7-kilometer Dona Reeder Cross Country Course on the campus of Utah State. He led the men's team to a second-place finish, totaling 46 points behind Southern Utah's 26.

Dating back to last season in what was a very successful 2015 campaign, Vennard has been Boise State's top men's finisher in six of the last seven meets. He was a USTFCCCA All-West Region honoree after taking 17th at the 2015 NCAA West Regional and a first-team All-Mountain West honoree thanks to a fifth-place performance at the conference championships.

The Broncos' last male weekly league athlete of the week honoree came in 2014 when David Elliott received the nod on Sept. 9, 2014.

Vennard and the rest of the Boise State cross country team will compete again on Sept. 24 at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn., at the Les Bolstad Course on the campus of the University of Minnesota.

The team will be releasing a series of #TrailTuesday videos over the course of the season to highlight some of the trails in the Boise Foothills. Check out the first video below.
