Roberts and Walley both recorded double-doubles to lead Boise State
LARAMIE, Wyo. - Boise State's rally attempt at Laramie came up short as the Broncos fell in four to Wyoming 25-18, 21-25, 25-21, 27-25. Boise State had two set points in the fourth period for a chance to force the contest to a decisive fifth, but could not hold on for the win as the Cowgirls came back on a 3-0 run to take the set in extra points 27-25 to clinch the match. The loss was the second of the weekend for the Blue and Orange as they fall to 11-8 overall and 3-5 in Mountain West play, Wyoming improved to 14-6 and 6-2 in league.Â
Â
Janell Walley was one of two Broncos to record a double-double tallying team-highs for kills and digs with 15 and 16, respectively. Sabryn Roberts earned her team-best eighth double-double of the season with 11 kills and 10 digs to go with one block.Â
It was a balanced offense for the Broncos on Saturday but it was not enough for a victory. Backing up Walley and Roberts was Morgan Hughes who had 12 kills while hitting a team-high 39.1 percent. She also had one service ace, three digs and three blocks, tie for the team high.
Kiley Lewis added nine kills, four digs and team-high (tied) three blocks. Cassedi Simon dished out a team-high 49 assists from her setter position, while Jessie Brigham had 15 digs as the libero.Â
Boise State started the day slow and struggled hitting the ball with any consistency. The Broncos hit 7.9 percent in the seven point set one loss and 7.5 percent in set three. The Blue and Orange hit a match-high 25 percent in the set two victory and 24.4 percent in the tight set four loss. On the day, Boise State hit 16.1 percent compared to Wyoming's 24.8 percent.Â
Wyoming had no service aces on the day to Boise State's four, but the Broncos also had 13 service errors to the Cowgirls' seven. The home side was stronger at the net recording more blocks than Boise State by a 12-to-6 margin.
Boise State used a 3-0 run late in the second set to break a 17-17 tie and take a 20-17 lead. The Broncos never trailed again in the period as they tied the match at 1-1 with a 25-21 set two win.Â
Â
Down 2-1 in the match, the Broncos rolled off  a 4-0 run to break a 16-16 tie and turn it into a 19-16 lead late in the fourth set. After Wyoming rallied on a 6-1 run to go up 22-20, Boise State came back with a 4-1 run to reach its first set point at 24-23. The Broncos had a second set point up 25-24 only to see the Cowgirls score three straight to put the match away with a 27-25 set win.Â
Next up for the Broncos is a road trip to Logan, Utah, on Tuesday night to face off with the Utah State Aggies.
