Broncos Clean Up In Mountain West Honors

10/29/2018 4:26:00 PM | Women's Soccer

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The conference announced its year-end honors, Monday, and junior forward Raimee Sherle repeated as the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year while head coach Jim Thomas was recognized as the Mountain West Coach of the Year. Boise State led the conference with six honorees between the All-MW First and Second Teams, which also set a program record for all-conference recognitions.

Sherle along with senior defender Addison Standlee and junior midfielder McKenna Kynett were given All-MW First-Team nods while sophomore forward Aubree Chatterton, senior defender Eva Herrera and senior midfielder Michelle Reed earned spots on the All-MW Second Team.

Freshman defender Macie Nelson was recognized on the Mountain West All-Newcomer Team, as well.

The seven players receiving some type of conference postseason accolade eclipses the previous program high of five that was set last season in 2017.

Sherle is just the second individual to win back-to-back offensive player of the year honors in the Mountain West, joining Jennifer Williams (2010-11, New Mexico). Her 20 goals in 2018 are both program and Mountain West single-season records as she continues to lead the NCAA in goals this season.

Sherle's first-team nod is the third of her career, making her just the second Bronco to earn three or more first-team honors over the course of a career, joining Brooke Heidemann (2012-15). Heidemann earned four-straight All-MW First-Team honors.

The award for Thomas marks the first conference coach of the year honor for any Bronco head coach in program history. The team's 13 wins this season not only set the program regular season record for most wins, but it also made Thomas the fastest coach to 60 career wins in program history, as he currently sits at 61 wins.

The first-team honor for Kynett is the first All-MW honor of her career. With seven goals and four assists in 2018, the Minden, Nev., native is No. 2 in the Mountain West for points (18) while her goals' mark is tied for second.

Standlee's recognition on the first team is also the first All-MW honor of her decorated career, as her 1,693 minutes played in 2018 at center back is a season high for any Bronco field player. She has been the leader of a Boise State defense that is third in the conference with a 0.86 GAA.

The second-team accolades for Reed and Herrera were also career firsts for the two seniors. An integral part of the Bronco midfield, Reed has started in 18 games and been the trigger point for an offense that has scored 32 goals in 2018 – fifth most in singles-season program history. Herrera has tallied one assist and played exceptionally as an outside back for a Boise State team that has already broken the single-season record for shutouts with 10.

Chatterton's second-team nod comes on the heels of an appearance on the 2017 MW All-Newcomer Team last season. The sophomore has gradually improved in coming back from injury, as all five of her points (1 goal, 3 assists) this season have come in the last six games.

With just 15 games under her belt, Nelson has turned into a major contributor for the Bronco defense in her first season wearing the Blue and Orange. Her ability to win balls in the air proved to be the difference maker against San Diego State (Oct. 7), as her header in the 52nd was the game winner.

Boise State – the No. 1 seed in the 2018 Mountain West Women's Soccer Championship – will face either No. 4 San Jose State or No. 5 Fresno State in the second semifinal set for Thursday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. PT in San Jose, Calif.
