Boise State Heads to California to Face Fresno State and San Diego State

WHAT IS HAPPENING THIS WEEK

Boise State (14-9, 6-6 MW) hits the road this week for Fresno State and San Diego State in Mountain West Conference play.
The Broncos open the week Thursday night at 8 p.m. (Mountain) in Fresno, Calif., against the Fresno State Bulldogs (17-7, 9-2 MW) ... Boise State won the first meeting of the year in Boise 3-1.
Boise State concludes this week's trip Saturday night in San Diego where the Broncos will face the San Diego State Aztecs at 7 p.m. (Mountain) ... the Aztecs edged the Broncos 3-2 in the first meeting of the season at Boise.

BRONCOS BY THE NUMBERS

Leaders: Sabryn Roberts leads Boise State with 3.85 kills per set (3rd MW / 71st NCAA) ... Jessica Donahue adds 2.19 kps and team-high 1.38 blocks per set (2nd MW / 23rd NCAA) ... Morgan Hughes averages 2.13 kps and 1.08 bps (10th MW).
Team: As a team the Broncos are hitting 20.8 percent (5th MW) while holding opponents to 17.6 percent (4th MW / 64th NCAA) ... they average 12.86 kills (4th MW), 12.06 assists (4th MW), 1.50 service aces (4th MW / 51st NCAA), 14.36 digs (4th MW) and 2.52 blocks per set (3rd MW / 39th NCAA).

ROBERTS MOVES INTO FIFTH FOR CAREER KILLS

Senior outside hitter Sabryn Roberts is the 15th member of the 1,000 career kills club.
Roberts currently has 1,219 career kills to ranked fifth all time, 22 short of tying for fourth.
Roberts moved from ninth into seventh place for career kills at Boise State with 29 kills combined against San Diego State and Fresno State (Oct. 4-6), she started the year in 20th with 889.
She moved into sixth over the week of Oct. 11-13 with a combined 24 kills at CSU and Wyoming.
Roberts claimed fifth with 15 kills against Nevada on Oct. 25 giving her 1,210.

ROBERTS THE LEADER OF THE PACK

Sabryn Roberts has led the team in kills during 20 of the 23 contests (including two ties) to date, reaching double-digits 20 times and 20-plus in four matches, Portland State (20), Milwaukee (21), Washington (24) and San Diego State (20).
Roberts also has a team-high 10 double-doubles (kills and digs combination).

DONAHUE SECOND IN MW FOR BLOCKS

True freshman Jessica Donahue has made a huge impact for the Broncos at the net recording 95 blocks to date.
Donahue missed the first five MW matches before returning to action against Fresno State (Oct. 6) when she recorded a team-high seven blocks.
She is currently ninth in the MW for total blocks ... second in the MW and ranked 23rd nationally in blocks per set at 1.38.
In her first collegiate match versus Long Beach State, Donahue set the Boise State freshman record for blocks in a match with 10.
Her 10 blocks against Long Beach State is ranked tied for seventh in program history.

MORGAN HUGHES SERVING UP ACES

Senior transfer Morgan Hughes has made an immediate impact on the team leading the team in service aces with 38 to rank fourth in the MW and 27th nationally.
She is fourth in the MW and 31st in the NCAA for service aces per set at 0.44.
Hughes has also impacted the team's defense, she is second on the team and is 11th in MW for blocks with 93 ... second on team and 10th in MW for blocks per set at 1.08.

FRESNO STATE MATCH PREVIEW

The Broncos open week seven of MW play Thursday night at Fresno State in a 8 p.m. (Mountain) first serve at the Save Mart Center.
This will be the 38th meeting all-time with Fresno State leading the series 20-17 ... the Broncos won the first meeting of the year 3-1 in Boise.
LAST TIME: Janell Walley hit 36 percent for a career-high 19 kills as Boise State rallied from one set down to hand Fresno State its first loss in conference play 17-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-19 in Boise. After dropping the first set by eight points, Boise State regrouped to sweep the next three by and average of five points to upset the league-leading Bulldogs in four sets.
The Bulldogs enter this week at 17-7 overall and 9-2 in league, good for second-place ... Fresno State is coming off a road split last week beating Wyoming 3-1, then lost 3-0 at Colorado State.
Fresno State is hitting 23.4 percent (4th MW) on the year and holding opponents to 18.7 percent (6th MW) ... the Bulldogs are led by Taylor Slover averaging 3.68 kills per set (4th MW) and Jessica Gilbert averaging 2.52 kills per set.
The Bulldogs were picked seventh in this year's MW coaches preseason poll.

SAN DIEGO STATE MATCH PREVIEW

The Broncos will wrap up the road trip at 7 p.m. (Mountain) on Saturday in Peterson Gym at San Diego State.
This will be the 16th meeting all-time in the series which the Aztecs lead 8-7 ... SDSU won the first meeting of the year at Boise State in five sets.
LAST TIME: Despite double-doubles from its seniors, Sabryn Roberts and Morgan Hughes, Boise State fell in five sets to San Diego State. Roberts recorded her seventh double-double of the year on a team-high 20 kills to go with 10 digs. Hughes hit a team-best 44.4 percent for 10 kills to go with 10 digs, she also served up a team and career-best six aces. For the second match in a row – both losses – Boise State out hit and had more kills than its opponent, but could not get the victory. The Broncos hit 22.3 percent against the Aztecs for 58 kills compared to SDSU's 20.6 percent hitting and 48 kills.
San Diego State enters the week at 7-18 overall and 5-7 in conference ... the Aztecs are coming off a pair of road defeats at Colorado State and Wyoming by 3-0 scores.
SDSU is hitting 20.5 percent (6th MW) on the year and holding opponents to 23.3 percent (10th MW) ... Deja Harris leads San Diego State averaging 3.0 kills while hitting a team-best 32.4 percent (7th MW), she also leads in blocks per set at 1.31 (3rd MW) ... Ashlynn Dunbar is second averaging 2.86 kills per set.
