Team qualifies for national championship for fourth-straight season; joins women's team who qualified yesterday
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – What was expected Friday became official on Saturday: both the Boise State men's and women's cross country teams have received bids to the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships. The NCAA announced at-large bids this afternoon, and the men's program was one of 13 team's to receive those at-large bids to the national championships.Â
The women's team received an automatic qualifier by way of their second-place finish yesterday at the West Region Championships in Sacramento, Calif. The Broncos placed all five scorers in the top 16 to finish five points behind second-ranked Oregon.
The men finished third with 102 points, and were within 25 points of first place at the regional championship. Despite not receiving the automatic bid, the ninth-ranked men had accumulated a resume with nine KOLAS points to receive an at-large bid.

This is the fourth-straight season the men have qualified for the national championship, while this is the fourth time in the past five seasons the women have qualified a full team. Boise State has only ever qualified both teams to the national championships three times in program history (2015, 2017-18), with each of those berths coming under head coach Corey Ihmels.
In 1996, the men posted their highest finish at nationals by taking eighth. Boise State's women's team took sixth at last year's meet for their highest finish.
Madison, Wisc. will be the host site for the 2018 championships, with both races being held Nov. 17 at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course.Â
