BOISE, Idaho – Six Broncos scored in double figures as defending Mountain West champion Boise State cruised to a 99-68 victory over Concordia (Ore.) Friday night in exhibition action.
Senior Joyce Harrell scored the first bucket of the game and went on to  finish with 14 points on 6-for-6 shooting with eight rebounds. Preseason Mountain West Player of the Year Riley Lupfer went 4-for-6 from 3-point range and finished the night with 14 points, while freshman Jade Loville had 13 and fellow rookie Rachel Bowers had a team-high 17 on 8-of-11 shooting.
Loville, the Preseason Mountain West Freshman of the Year, went 3-for-5 from deep in addition to grabbing three rebounds and passing out three assists.
Boise State, which opens its regular season next Thursday, Nov. 8, against defending Big West champion and NCAA Tournament participant CSUN, showed off a well-rounded offense with the six in double figures, along with passing out 30 assists on 36 made field goals, led by Jayde Christopher's nine helpers.
Â
The Broncos wasted little time getting off to a fast start Friday, making its first four attempts from the field and going 10-for-20 overall and 4-for-5 from deep in the opening quarter to go up 25-7. Boise State held a 7-5 advantage with 7:20 to go in the opening frame before a driving pull-up from Lupfer ignited an 18-0 run.
Over the run, Lupfer, Braydey Hodgins, and Loville each hit a 3-pointer, while Marta Hermida hit one of her own to cap the run and put the Broncos in front, 25-5, with 2:14 left in the first.
Concordia would recover some in the second quarter, as Kizzah Maltezo, who led the Cavaliers with 22 points on the night, helped spark a run that pulled the visitors to within 11 at 38-27 with 3:37 left in the opening half. But that was as close as the Cavaliers would get, as Bowers answered with consecutive buckets inside followed by an Hermida layup in transition to get the Bronco lead back to 17 at 44-27.
Much of the second half featured the Broncos' freshman duo of Loville and Bowers combining to score 15 points as Boise State continued to roll, leading by as many as 34 at one point.
