Game Notes

THE GAME: Boise State (2-2) will face Illinois State (3-2) in the fifth-place game of the Cayman Islands Classic, Wednesday, Nov. 21, at John Gray Gymnasium.

RADIO: The game will broadcast exclusively on KTIK 1350 AM with Bob Behler on play-by-play.

ABOUT ILLINOIS STATE: The Redbirds opened up with Georgia in the opening round, resulting in an 80-68 loss, but bounced back with a 73-68 victory over Akron yesterday. Illinois State is led by Milik Yarbrough, as he leads the team in points (16.2 ppg), rebounds (9.2 rpg) and assists (3.6 apg).

WE MEET AGAIN: Boise State and Illinois State played against each other for the first time last season, squaring off in the second round of the 2017 Puerto Rico Tip-Off at Myrtle Beach. The Broncos claimed the 82-64 victory with Chandler Hutchison leading the way thanks to 19 points and 18 rebounds. Boise State held a +30 rebounding advantage (57-27) that game, as well.

BIG GAME FROM THE OUTSIDE: Boise State was exceptional from behind the arc against St. Bonaventure, going 13-of-24 (54.2%) for the most threes in a game this season. Derrick Alston went 6-of-7 from deep and Justinian Jessup hit four to buoy the Blue and Orange. The 13 triples are the most for the team since hitting 14 at home against Air Force last season (Feb. 17, 2018).

UNREAL SECOND HALF: After taking a 30-24 lead at the break against St. Bonaventure, the Broncos went on an incredible 21-0 run to take the 51-24 lead at the 13:12 mark in the second half. The 21-0 run marks the most points on a single run – while holding an opponent scoreless – so far this season.

EFFICIENT FROM THE FIELD, AGAIN: The Broncos shot 58.1 percent (25-of-43) from the field against the Bonnies. The field goal percentage was the highest of the season and the highest since going 38-of-64 (59.4%) against New Mexico (Jan. 3, 2018) last season. Boise State was also above 50 percent in its first Cayman Islands Classic game against Creighton, going 32-of-62 (51.6%).
