Boise State Has 73 Named Academic All-MW

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State had a school-record 73 student-athletes named to the 2017 Fall Academic All-Mountain West Team Wednesday, as the conference announced the annual honors. The 73 Bronco student-athletes honored represents a continued raising of the academic bar for the department, showing growth from the numbers in the Fall semesters of 2016 (67), 2015 (61) and 2014 (55).

Overall, a conference-record 618 student-athletes were honored by the Mountain West for the Fall 2017 semester. Boise State topped all Mountain West institutions with its 73 selections.

Fall sports represented on the team include: men's and women's cross country, football, women's soccer, and women's volleyball.

For the seventh time in as many years since joining the Mountain West in 2011-12, the Boise State football team led the conference in selections with 36, up from 31 a year ago. Soccer (16 selections) and women's cross country (nine) each set the respective program record for most honorees since joining the Mountain West.

Volleyball matched its second-highest mark, as well as last fall's total, with seven selections, while men's cross country, with five student-athletes on the list, was just one shy of its program record.

To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.
