Game Notes

THE GAME: Boise State (8-8, 3-0) will look to maintain its undefeated conference record this coming Tuesday when it faces its highest ranked opponent this season in No. 10/11 Nevada (16-1, 3-0). The game will tip at 7 p.m. at Taco Bell Arena.

WATCH: The game will broadcast on CBS Sports Network with Andrew Catalon (play-by-play) and Steve Lappas (analyst) on the call.

RADIO: Bob Behler and Abe Jackson will once again have the game, which will air on 670 KBOI or the TuneIn app.

LAST TIME OUT: Boise State was dominant Saturday on the road against San Jose State, capturing the 87-64 win at The Event Center in San Jose, Calif. For the first time this season five Broncos were able to score 10 or more points, as Pat Dembley and Alex Hobbs both led the way with 18 points apiece, Justinian Jessup was right behind with 17 while Zach Haney and Derrick Alston tallied 11 points each.

Boise State was exceptional offensively in the second half, shooting 66.7 percent (18-of-27) from the field and winning the latter 20 minutes 50-30. The Broncos led 37-34 at the break and opened the second half on a 21-4 run featuring 3-pointers by Alston, Jessup, Hobbs and Marcus Dickinson, and ultimately never looked back.

The Blue and Orange knocked down a season-high 15 3-pointers, as well, with Hobbs and Dembley cashing in four each.

ABOUT NEVADA: The returning Mountain West regular season champions are once again stacked with talent, as reigning conference player of the year Caleb Martin leads the Wolf Pack in scoring at 19.1 ppg. Jordan Caroline is right behind Martin in scoring at 18.4 ppg while almost averaging a double-double with 9.8 rpg.

Nevada's only loss this season came at New Mexico (85-58, Jan. 5), while it has captured victories in its other 16 games.

THE SERIES: The Wolf Pack lead the all-time series 44-27 and have won the last four games. The Broncos are 7-7 against Nevada since head coach Leon Rice took the helm in the 2010-11 season.

LONG HISTORY: Besides in-state opponents Idaho and Idaho State, Boise State has played Nevada more than any other school in program history. The Broncos and Wolf Pack – who first played against each other on Dec. 22, 1977 – have almost always been in the same conference, starting with the Big Sky (1980-92), then the Big West (1996-2000), followed by the Western Athletic (2001-11) and now in the Mountain West (2011-Present).

3-0 TO START, AGAIN: Boise State has made a habit of getting out to quality starts in league play in recent years, as it has started 3-0 in four-straight seasons dating back to the 2015-16 season after Saturday's win at San Jose State. A win for the Broncos over the Wolf Pack would give them their third 4-0 start in the last four years (2015-16 and 2016-17).

HIGHLY RANKED OPPONENT: The No. 10 Wolf Pack will be the highest ranked opponent that the Broncos have played at home since taking on No. 5 San Diego State back on Feb. 8, 2014 where Boise State came up just short, falling 67-65 to the Aztecs.

The Blue and Orange have an overall record of 8-48 against opponents ranked in the top 25 of the AP poll, including a 5-11 record at home. The highest ranked opponent that Boise State has ever defeated was No. 11 Creighton on the road back on Nov. 28, 2012, upsetting the Bluejays by a score of 83-70 in Omaha.

As it pertains to opponents ranked in the top 10 of the AP poll, the Broncos are 0-16 against such foes.

The highest ranked opponent that the Broncos have ever defeated at home was No. 15 Washington back on Dec. 4, 1998 in a 69-61 win for the Blue and Orange.

Boise State has defeated two conference opponents who were ranked in the top 25; No. 21 Utah State (Feb. 14, 2009) and No. 24 San Diego State (Feb. 28, 2015).

RAINING THREES, LIMITING THE OPPOSITION: After having just one previous game this season with 10 or more threes (13 vs. St. Bonaventure – Nov. 20, 2018), the Broncos exploded for a season-high 15 triples on 48.4 percent shooting from behind the arc (15-of-31). The trey continues to be key for Bronco teams under head coach Leon Rice, as the program moved to 110-38 under his watch in games where they make eight or more threes.

On the flip side of the coin, Boise State was exceptional at limiting the Spartans from three, as they were just 3-of-11 from distance. The Broncos are 3-0 this season when holding an opponent to four or fewer threes.

LARGE MARGINS OF VICTORY: With Saturday's 23-point win, Boise State has now defeated conference opponents by 10 or more points in three-straight games. The last time the team did that was in 2014-15 when they won the last two games of the regular season (68-51 win over San Jose State, 71-52 win over Fresno State) and the first game of the MW Tournament (80-68 win over Air Force).

WELL-ROUNDED SCORING DAY: The five players scoring in double figures against San Jose State (Hobbs – 18, Dembley – 18, Jessup – 17, Alston – 11 and Haney – 11) represented the first game this season that the five different Broncos tallied 10 or more points. The 80-point benchmark also continues to be an accurate telltale for team success, as the team is now 4-1 this season when scoring 80 or more.

TOPS IN THE CONFERENCE: Through two weeks of conference play, Boise State ranks No. 1 in the league when it comes to scoring offense (81.3 ppg), scoring defense (61.0 ppg), scoring margin (+20.3 ppg), free throw percentage (81.8%) and 3-point defense (25.0%). The Broncos have been a much-improved team through three games of the MW season, as shown by their No.1 spot in the league standings.
