Game Notes

THE GAME: The Broncos (10-11, 5-3) will take their two-game winning streak to the home of the first-place team in the Mountain West – the No. 8/7 Wolf Pack (20-1, 7-1). The game in Reno, Nev., will take place on Saturday, Feb. 2 with tip set for 3 p.m. PT.

WATCH: The game will broadcast on CBS Sports Network with Andrew Catalon (play-by-play) and Steve Lappas (analyst) on the call.

LISTEN: 670 AM KBOI will have the game (fans can also listen on the TuneIn app) with Bob Behler and Abe Jackson calling the action.

LAST TIME OUT: Justinian Jessup tossed in 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting and Boise State held off Colorado State 70-68 on Tuesday night. Jessup added six assists (a career high), five rebounds and two blocked shots for the Broncos, who beat the Rams (8-13, 3-5) for a fifth-straight time, including three straight on CSU's home floor. Alex Hobbs added 17 points and four assists. Derrick Alston and Marcus Dickinson scored 14 and 12, respectively.

Boise State took a 35-30 lead at the break and led comfortably for the majority of the second half until the final minute. Anthony Masinton-Bonner's 3-pointer pulled CSU within 68-66 with 20 seconds to go. The Broncos added two free throws to stretch their lead to four, but J.D. Paige was fouled on a 3-point try with two seconds remaining. Paige made the first two foul shots, intentionally missed the third, but Nico Carvacho's tip-in try was off target.

The victory moved the Broncos to 3-1 in league road games this season and gave CSU its first home loss of the MW season.

ABOUT NEVADA: The No. 8/7 Wolf Pack have done nothing but win handily since needing a game-winning three from Cody Martin to claim the 72-71 win in Boise over two weeks ago. Nevada has won its next three games by a combined 72 points.

The Wolf Pack lead the Mountain West in scoring offense (80.9 ppg) and scoring defense (65.8 ppg) while also having two of the league's top five individual scorers in No. 3 Jordan Caroline (18.6 ppg) and No. 4 Caleb Martin (18.5 ppg). Caroline is also the No. 2 rebounder in the MW, averaging 9.7 a game.

PREVIOUS MATCHUP: Boise State all but had the game won on Jan. 15 at Taco Bell Arena, but Cody Martin was able to hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with five seconds on the clock to give Nevada the lead and eventual win at 72-71.

The Broncos trailed 40-31 at the half, but continued to put foul pressure on the Wolf Pack into the second half and was able to take its first lead of the game at 69-68 after Hobbs was able to make two free throws. Cody Martin then tied the game hitting one of two from the line with 1:52 left. Hobbs then answered with a layup 10 seconds later to give the Broncos a 71-69 advantage. Nevada, however, turned up its defensive intensity and stifled two subsequent Boise State possessions, setting up Martin's game winner.

Despite the loss, Boise State was excellent at limiting Caleb Martin (scored just 10 points) while also holding Nevada to a season-low two offensive rebounds.

THE SERIES, LONG HISTORY: The Wolf Pack leads the all-time series 45-27 and has won the last five games. Besides in-state opponents Idaho and Idaho State, Boise State has played Nevada more than any other school in program history. The Broncos and Wolf Pack – who first played against each other on Dec. 22, 1977 – have almost always been in the same conference, starting with the Big Sky (1980-92), then the Big West (1996-2000), followed by the Western Athletic (2001-11) and now in the Mountain West (2011-Present).

TOP-10 OPPONENT ON THE ROAD: No. 8 Nevada will be the highest ranked opponent the Broncos have played on the road since taking on No. 3 Wisconsin back on Nov. 22, 2014. Boise State lost that game 78-54 to the Badgers.

The Blue and Orange have an overall record of 8-49 against opponents ranked in the top 25 of the AP poll, including a 3-25 record on the road. As it pertains to opponents ranked in the top 10 of the AP poll, the Broncos are 0-17 against such foes.

The highest ranked opponent Boise State has ever defeated on the road (or ever) was No. 11 Creighton back on Nov. 28, 2012, upsetting the Bluejays by a score of 83-70 in Omaha.
Nevada has won 13-straight home games and hasn't lost at home since Feb. 7, 2018, losing to the UNLV 78-86.

THE OFFENSE IS CLICKING: The Broncos were 26-of-45 against the Rams on Tuesday, securing their second-highest field goal percentage of the season (57.8%). The team has eight games this season shooting 50 percent or better and is 5-3 in such contests. Boise State's season-long field goal percentage of 46.7 is second in the Mountain West, trailing only Utah State (47.7%).

WELL-ROUNDED GAME FOR JESSUP: The Longmont, Colo., native was right at home in his native state, stuffing the stat sheet against Colorado State to a tune of 20 points, six assists, five rebounds and two blocks. The six assists were a career high and Jessup now has three 20-point games this season. It's no surprise that Jessup leads the team in plus-minus per game so far this season at +6.19.

HOBBS EFFICIENT AS A GUARD: While Hobbs' ability to score the ball in eight Mountain West games has been most notable as his points per game average of 15.6 in league play is 10th in the MW, it's been his efficiency from the guard position that puts him in elite company. Shooting 48.5 percent from the field in conference (7th in the MW), Hobbs has the highest shooting percentage for any guard or wing who is ranked in the top 20 of the conference in scoring when it comes to Mountain West games. Naturally, the junior from La Porte, Texas has also been money from the free throw line in league, making 17-of-18 attempts (94.4%).

DICKINSON PLAYING A TON, BUT STILL TAKING CARE OF IT: Dickinson continues to log a boatload of minutes for the Blue and Orange, as he ranks No. 9 in the MW averaging 34.5 minutes per game in conference play. Most impressively, however, has been his ability to take care of the ball running the Bronco offense, as he has committed just five turnovers through the eight MW games. The junior has scored in double figures in three of the last five games, including 12 against CSU.
