Broncos Throttle Aztecs at Taco Bell Arena

BOISE, Idaho (AP)Derrick Alston had a career-high 30 points on 9-of-14 shooting and Boise State led by double digits throughout the second half in an 88-64 win over San Diego State on Saturday night.

Alston's 30 points was the first 30-point game of the season for any Boise State player. His 30 points also was the 55th 30-plus point game in program history. He recorded career highs in made field goals (9), field goal attempts (14), made free throws (10) and free throw attempts (12) in 29 minutes of play.

Alex Hobbs added 18 points for the Broncos (7-8, 2-0 Mountain West Conference), who have won three of their last four games.

Boise State led by 23 late in the first half and went into the break with a 46-25 lead. San Diego State opened the second half with a 12-2 run to cut the deficit to eleven but that was as close as the Aztecs (8-6, 0-1) would get.

The Blue and Orange's 24-point victory gives the team its largest margin of victory over San Diego State in program history. The previous largest margin of victory for the Broncos against the Aztecs was 15 points back on Feb. 8, 2015 (61-46).

The 88 points was a season high for Boise State. The Broncos ended the game shooting 56.9 percent from the field (29-of-51), their second-highest field goal percentage in a game this season.

Devin Watson had 24 points and Jalen McDaniels added 14 for San Diego State, which made just 3 of 21 from 3-point range.

After utilizing a mid-week bye this coming week, Boise State will head to San Jose State and face the Spartans, Saturday, Jan. 12 for a noon PT / 1 p.m. MT tip at San Jose State's Event Center.
