Bronco Singles Dominate on Saturday at Cougar Classic

Boise State's women's tennis team collected seven singles wins on a busy day of play Saturday.

Timm, Conde Vendrell Lead Broncos on Day Two of Cougar Classic

PULLMAN, Wash. – Ana Conde Vendrell and Vanessa Timm each collected two singles victories to lead the Boise State women's tennis team  on the second day of action at the Washington State Cougar Classic. Overall, Boise State collected six singles victories on Saturday.
 
In the consolation side of the Gray flight, Timm and Conde Vendrell were virtually unstoppable. Timm began the day by taking down Idaho's Maggie Chen 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8), then defeated Stephannie Boroussard of Eastern Washington in straight sets 6-0, 6-3 to advance to the consolation final.
 
Also in the Gray flight consolation bracket, Conde Vendrell won a tough three-set match in her first contest against Jullia Rasmussen of Seattle 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6), then cruised past Katie Day from Gonzaga 6-1, 6-1 to set up a Bronco showdown in the consolation final tomorrow.
 
Emily Strande was knocked out of the Crimson flight singles bracket by Idaho's Laura Spataro 6-4, 7-5, but bounced back for a consolation victory over Mountain West opponent Gabrielle Dekkers from Utah State 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8).
 
Frankie Trella also recorded a singles win by knocking off Lauren Dunlap of Montana 4-6, 7-6 (5), 1-0 (10-5) in a consolation match in the Cougar flight.
 
In doubles, Camryn Moortgat and Timm picked up a win in the consolation portion of the Crimson flight over Idaho's dua of Maggie Chen and Ilana Oleynik by a score of 6-2.
 
Action from Pullman, Wash., will conclude tomorrow morning as the Broncos look to finish strong before returning home.

POLING NOTCHES WIN AT ITA ALL-AMERICANS 

TULSA, Okla. – Lilian Poling collected a three-set singles victory at the ITA All-American tournament in Tulsa, Okla., on Saturday.
 
Poling, who was competing in the singles portion of the event for the first time in her career, defeated Nebraska's Jessica Aragon 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 in her first match in pre-qualifying at the tournament. Poling was then knocked out in her next match by Maria Toran Ribes of Kansas 7-5, 6-1, ending her run in the singles bracket.
 
The freshman Joana Baptista, a late add to the singles field, also played on Saturday, but was taken down by Denise Stocia from Wisconsin 6-1, 6-2.
 
The two will compete as a doubles pair in the qualifying round of the tournament on Monday.
