Lilian Poling collected a singles victory and paired up with Joana Baptista for a win in doubles as the two competed at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
TULSA, Okla. – Lilian Poling and Joana Baptista represented Boise State at the ITA All-American Championships this past weekend in Tulsa, Okla.
Poling, who had competed in the event for doubles the past two seasons, faced Jessica Aragon from Nebraska in the first round of pre-qualifying singles on Saturday. Poling battled in a three-set match, and overcame a loss in the first set to come back and win 5-7, 6-4, 6-1. Poling was knocked out, however, in the next round by Kansas' Maria Toran Ribes 7-5, 6-1.
Baptista, a freshman, represented Boise State in only her first semester as a Bronco at this prestigious event. Baptista had her work cut out for her facing the fourth-seeded Denise Stocia from Wisconsin, who won the match 7-5, 6-1.
Poling and Baptista also competed as a pair in the doubles competition. In the first round of the qualifying draw, the Bronco tandem defeated East Carolina's duo of Alisa Diercksen and Lisa Hotbauer 8-6. The Broncos then faced a pair from Penn in the next round, but lost the match in an 8-3 contest.
The two now return to Boise to join their teammates as they prepare for the ITA Mountain Region Championships in Las Vegas, Nev., on Oct. 23-27.
