Broncos Fall to Aggies

11/1/2019 6:55:00 PM | Women's Soccer

LOGAN, Utah - Despite outshooting Utah State 19-5, Boise State women's soccer couldn't get a shot to find the back of the net, Friday, as the Broncos dropped their final regular-season match 1-0 to Utah State.

"Today was a great lesson for us even at this point in the year," said head coach Jim Thomas. "You can't allow teams to have advantages over you even for small periods of time. They may get a goal and that can change the complexion of the game so global credit to the Aggies they were really well organized we've known them to be a very very good team way better than their record and they proved that today."

The Bronco defense allowed just two Aggie shots on goal all game, with one finding the upper corner of the net just outside the reach of Boise State goalkeeper Sydney Smith in the 30th minute.

Senior forward Raimee Sherle fired off eight of the Bronco shots with four of them on target, including a shot that was deflected by the Utah State keeper. The deflected shot then flipped over the keeper's head toward the goal. Only a quick spin by the keeper prevented the equalizer

Junior Aubree Chatterton had three shots of her own with all three on target. Jazel Bowers logged two shots on goal leading the Bronco reserves.

"It's unfortunate, at the end of the day I think we really invested ourselves and as the game wore on and created a number of opportunities and they were unfortunate enough to score," said Thomas.

Despite the loss, the Broncos are guaranteed a top-two finish going into the conference tournament which begins Tuesday, Nov. 5 in Boise, Idaho. The Broncos can still clinch a share of the Mountain West regular-season title with a San Diego State loss in its final match at New Mexico.

The next opportunity to watch the Broncos will be Thursday, Nov. 7, at 2 p.m. MT in the semifinal round of the Mountain West Championship at Boas Soccer Complex.
