Broncos Roll In Exhibition

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State's lone exhibition ahead of the 2019-20 regular season went into the books Saturday, as the Broncos defeated Concordia (Ore.), 79-39, at ExtraMile Arena.
The Broncos broke it open with a 25-2 third quarter, not allowing Concordia a field goal and forcing 10 turnovers. Mallory McGwire and A'Shanti Coleman each scored six points in a half-opening 19-0 run which ballooned a 17-point halftime lead into a 36-point advantage.
McGwire and Coleman also paced Boise State's dominance on the boards, grabbing eight rebounds apiece as the Broncos won the battle, 50-27.
McGwire, voted the Preseason Mountain West Newcomer of the Year Thursday, scored 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting with eight rebounds in her first action in a Boise State uniform.
Braydey Hodgins, the Preseason Mountain West Player of the Year, finished with a game-high 15 points, going 6-for-11 from the field. Fellow Preseason All-Mountain West Team selection Riley Lupfer went 4-for-5 from the field, including 2-for-3 from deep, for 10 points.
Boise State's defense was on point from the opening tip, forcing the Cavaliers into eight first-quarter turnovers, and limiting them to just 25.5-percent shooting (13-for-51) in the contest. The Broncos locked in even further after the break, opening the second half on a 19-0 run and holding the Cavaliers to just two points in the third quarter, the points coming on a pair of Iraide Juez free throws with 2:49 on the clock.
The Broncos took control of the contest early in the first quarter, hitting 10 of their final 14 attempts of the frame following a 1-for-4 start. Ellie Woerner scored six points in the first as Boise State took a 28-7 lead, and finished the game with 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting.
The Broncos will open the 2019-20 regular season Tuesday, Nov. 5, hosting Lewis-Clark State College at 5:30 p.m. at ExtraMile Arena.
