BOISE, Idaho -Â Boise State's second unit flexed in Tuesday night's season opener, as Ellie Woerner and Jade Loville combined for 29 points to pace the Broncos to an 88-34 win over Lewis-Clark State College at ExtraMile Arena.
Woerner provided the early spark for the Broncos (1-0), scoring five points and grabbing three rebounds off the bench in the opening quarter. Her offensive rebound of a Riley Lupfer missed 3-pointer and subsequent assist to Loville started an 8-0 run that woke the Broncos up from a sluggish 1-for-8 start from the field.
Woerner capped the run with a 3-pointer from the top of the key, giving Boise State a 17-6 lead. She would go on to finish the game with 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting, including a perfect 3-for-3 showing from deep.
Â
Loville heated up in the second quarter, scoring seven points and capping the half's scoring with a stepback 3-pointer from the left wing, giving Boise State a 33-15 lead at the break. The sophomore ended the night with 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting.
The first-half play of the pair picked up the slack for early struggles from the Bronco starters, as Lupfer, Braydey Hodgins, and Mallory McGwire each picked up a pair of fouls.
Â
The starters would regain their form after the break, with McGwire and Lupfer combining for nine points in a second half-opening 11-0 run capped by Lupfer's wide-open corner 3. McGwire would end up scoring nine of her 11 points in the third frame, as Boise State outscored the Warriors, 30-6, to take a 63-21 lead into the fourth.
Lupfer finished the game with nine points, while redshirt senior forward A'Shanti Coleman led the starters with 14 points and nine rebounds. Redshirt senior point guard Jayde Christopher passed out seven assists to go with her 11 points.
Boise State's defense was on point all night, limiting LCSC to just nine field goals and 20.9-percent shooting. No Warrior scored in double figures, with Jansen Edmiston leading LCSC with eight points, all of which came from the line.
Boise State returns to play Friday, hosting Portland State at 7 p.m. for the first round of the Preseason WNIT.
