BOISE, Idaho - A balanced effort from the Bronco second unit powered a 19-0 run to end the first half, and Boise State went on to cruise to a 75-32 victory over Western Oregon Wednesday afternoon at ExtraMile Arena.
Shariah Green's 3-pointer pulled Western Oregon to within a point at 19-18 with 8:11 left in the half, but the shot seemed to jolt the Broncos awake in the matinee outing. The defense forced six turnovers, and the Wolves missed their final eight attempts from the field the rest of the half. On the Bronco end, Jade Loville scored six quick points and Ellie Woerner hit three free throws to help get the Boise State lead to 32-18.
A'Shanti Coleman's jumper made it 36-18 with 39 seconds before the break, and, after the Bronco defense forced another turnover, Mallory McGwire's hook shot was good with three second to go, giving the Broncos the 20-point halftime lead.
McGwire led the Broncos (9-4) with 19 points in the contest, going 8-for-12 from the field. Loville was the only other Bronco in double digits, finishing with 10 points on 5-for-11 shooting.
Keyonna Jones and Tresai McCarver played the biggest roles in keeping the Wolves (3-6) close for just over a quarter. McCarver hit a pair of first-quarter triples that brought Western Oregon to within two at 11-9 with four minutes left in the opening frame, and Jones scored five of her team-high 12 points through the early second quarter.
McGwire would score Boise State's first six points of the second half, and the Broncos never looked back from there. Woerner added five of her seven points on the day over the final minutes of the third quarter, and Jayde Christopher capped it with a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
The Boise State defense would hold Western Oregon to just 22.4-percent shooting Wednesday, as the Wolves went just 13-for-58, and 3-for-16 from deep.
The Broncos conclude non-conference play Sunday at 2 p.m. against Pepperdine at ExtraMile Arena.
