BOISE, Idaho - Boise State opens Mountain West play with two games this week, beginning Wednesday night against New Mexico at 7 p.m. at ExtraMile Arena.

The Broncos conclude the week at Colorado State Sunday at 1 p.m., before resuming non-conference play next Wednesday, Dec. 11, against  BYU at ExtraMile Arena.

LAST TIME OUT
Boise State dropped its third game out of the last four this past Sunday, falling 77-65 at TCU at the 2019 Maggie Dixon Classic.

The Broncos got off to a slow start, falling behind, 22-11, after the first quarter, and couldn't get out of the hole.

Braydey Hodgins and Mallory McGwire led the Broncos with 11 points apiece in the contest, with McGwire also finishing with nine rebounds to just miss her second double-double. Point guard Jayde Christopher passed out eight assists.

WHO'S NEXT
The Broncos open Mountain West play Wednesday night, hosting New Mexico (6-1, 0-0 MW) at ExtraMile Arena.

The Lobos opened the season with six-straight wins before suffering their first loss Nov. 29, a 73-60 defeat to then-No. 23 West Virginia in Cancun, Mexico.

Ahlise Hurst leads the Lobos with 15.6 points per game, and is shooting 50.0 percent from 3-point range (29-for-58). Jayla Everett averages 11.4 points a game and leads New Mexico with 27 assists.

SERIES HISTORY
Boise State is 12-7 all-time against New Mexico, and has won the past two contests.

Last year, the teams met just once, in the penultimate game of the regular season on March 4. With the Mountain West regular-season title and tournament No. 1 seedc at stake, the Broncos defeated the Lobos, 70-66, in Boise.

CLASS OF THE MOUNTAIN WEST
Boise State, two-time defending Mountain West regular-season champion, has won its last three Mountain West openers, and has won 29 of its last 31 meetings against conference opposition (regular season and tournament) heading into Wednesday's game.

The current 29-2 run began with a 91-85 victory over New Mexico in Boise on Feb. 7, 2018. That win started a seven-game winning streak to close the 2017-18 regular season, which was followed by a 3-0 run at the 2018 Mountain West Tournament, a 16-2 regular season in 2018-19, and another tournament win last March.

PREPARING FOR MARCH...IN NOVEMBER
The saying goes that the games at team plays in November (and December!) prepares it for March.

Boise State, participants in each of the last three NCAA Tournaments, and four of the past five (2015, 2017-19), has tested itself against some of the nation's top teams early on this season, as the seven Division I opponents through Dec. 2 own a combined record of 34-14.

Only one of those opponents has a losing record (Utah Valley, 1-5) through Dec. 2, while two are ranked in this week's Associated Press Top 25 (Louisville at No. 2, Missouri State at No. 22).

AVOID DROPPING UNDER .500
Boise State, at 4-4 entering Wednesday's game, will need a win to avoid falling under .500 for the first time in two years.

The last time the Broncos had more losses than wins was when they fell to 2-3 after a 74-72 loss to Saint Mary's on Nov. 30, 2017. Boise State responded by winning its next three games, and has not been under .500 since.

IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Boise State has found itself, as well as a handful of players, ranked fairly high in early national stat rankings through Dec. 2.

As a team, the Broncos rank 11th in the country in assists (145). The Broncos' 47.3 field-goal percentage ranks 18th, and the team's 68 3-pointersare 19th in the country.

Individually, redshirt senior point guard Jayde Christopher leads the nation with 62 assists, while senior guard Riley Lupfer is third in the country with 30 3-pointers made, and ninth with 3.75 triples made per game.

GET OFF TO BETTER STARTS
One major factor in Boise State's 1-3 mark over its past four games is slow starts.

Over the three losses, the Broncos have been outscored, 73-35, in the first quarter.

The Broncos have shot just 32.6 percent (14-for-43) in the opening quarter of the three losses, including 25.0 percent (4-for-16) from deep.

Opponents (Washington State, Louisville, and TCU), meanwhile, have shot a combined 59.2 percent (29-for-49) from the field in those first quarters, and 50.0 percent (4-for-8) from 3-point range.

GOTTA GET LUPFER GOING
One of the keys to Boise State's success is getting senior guard and program all-time leader in 3-pointers Riley Lupfer going from deep.

Lupfer, who hit her 261st 3-pointer Nov. 15 at UAB to pass Abby Vaughan (1999-2003) and become Boise State's all-time leader, currently sits at 275. However, she is just 6-for-20 (30.0 percent) from deep and averaging 7.1 points over Boise State's three losses in the past four games.

Over Boise State's three wins against Division I schools this season, Lupfer is a combined 18-for-33 (54.5 percent) from 3-point range, 21-for-36 (58.3 percent) from the field, and averaging 20.0 points.
