Game Notes

THE GAME: Boise State (11-13, 6-5) will head to California for a two-game road trip this week, opening with Fresno State (17-6, 8-3) on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m. PT.

WATCH: The game will broadcast on CBS Sports Network with Dave Ryan (play-by-play) and Steve Wolf (analyst) calling the action.

LISTEN: Bob Behler and Abe Jackson will work the game on KBOI 670 AM. The pregame show will begin at 7 p.m. PT.

LAST TIME OUT: Derrick Alston had a career-high 33 points as Boise State romped past San Jose State 105-57 last Saturday at Taco Bell Arena. The 105 points was a season high for the Broncos and the first 100-point game since Nov. 10, 2017 last season.

RJ Williams had 22 points for Boise State while Alex Hobbs (17), Marcus Dickinson (11) and Justinian Jessup (10) also scored double-digit points. The five Boise State players scoring in double figures marked the second time this season Boise State has achieved the feat, with the previous time coming at San Jose State (Jan. 12).

The Broncos ended up shooting 62.7 percent from the field thanks to a 40-of-64 effort. The field goal percentage was the highest for the team since shooting 64.2 percent against Air Force two seasons ago on March 4, 2017.

ABOUT FRESNO STATE: The second-place Bulldogs are 8-3 in conference play, sharing the No. 2 spot with Utah State (18-6, 8-3). Fresno State has won three of its last four games, most recently capturing the 83-65 win on the road against UNLV (Feb. 9).

The Bulldogs are paced by their two lead guards: Braxton Huggins (18.7 ppg) and Deshon Taylor (16.3 ppg). Nate Grimes (9.3 rpg) anchors the paint and is one of the best rim protectors in the league, averaging 1.6 blocks per game.

PREVIOUS MATCHUP: The Broncos were held to 53 points (the team's second-lowest point total of the season) in the first meeting between the two teams, as Fresno State was able to capture the 63-53 victory on Jan. 19 in Taco Bell Arena. Boise State played a phenomenal first half and held the 28-22 lead at the break, but the Bulldogs charged back and hit five second-half threes to claim the win.

Justinian Jessup and Alex Hobbs each scored 15 points. Despite the loss, the Blue and Orange still did a good job of guarding Fresno State, as the 63 points was the second fewest of the season for the Bulldogs.

THE SERIES: The Broncos lead the all-time series 22-20. Boise State is 7-13 in games at Fresno State, but has reason for fresh confidence after last year's 70-64 win at the Save Mart Center. In a game that featured 52 fouls between the two teams, Boise State turned out to be the beneficiary in going 25-of-33 from the free throw line (75.8%). Chandler Hutchison made 15 freebies and finished with 21 points while Hobbs also played well and scored 20 points off the bench thanks to a 7-of-9 performance from the field.

RESOUNDING WIN AGAINST THE SPARTANS: Boise State's 48-point victory against San Jose State last Saturday was the second-largest margin of victory against a conference opponent in program history. It also ranks as the third-largest margin of victory for a conference game in Mountain West history.

The 105 points was the most for the team since scoring 110 against Simpson on Nov. 15, 2013 in what ended up being a 110-53 Bronco win. Boise State now has 38 100-point games in program history.

CRAZY SHOOTING PERCENTAGE: The Broncos were able to efficiently score their 105 points, shooting 62.7 percent from the field thanks to a 40-of-64 effort. The field goal percentage was the highest for the team in almost two years, as it shot 64.2 percent against Air Force two seasons ago on March 4, 2017. Boise State is 63-6 under ninth-year head coach Leon Rice when shooting 50 percent or better from the field.

The Blue and Orange now have the highest field goal percentage in the conference for the entire season, moving up to 47.8 percent which also puts them No. 36 in the country.

DON'T MESS WITH DA: Derrick Alston exploded for a career-high 33 points against the Spartans on 12-of-15 shooting, including a 5-of-7 effort from behind the arc. The redshirt sophomore is now the only player in the Mountain West to have two 30-point games this conference season.

His 33-point performance moves his points per game average in the MW season to 16.5, putting him 10th in the conference.

CONNECTING FROM DISTANCE: The three ball was naturally the Broncos' friend against the Spartans, as the team finished the day 15-of-30 from behind the arc to tie its season high for made threes. Making the three continues to be a key for Boise State, as it is 7-3 this season when making eight or more threes.

VALUING THE ROCK: Boise State is averaging just 8.8 turnovers over the course of its last four games and its first in the Mountain West in turnovers during the Mountain West season, averaging just 10.5 a game. Starting point guard Marcus Dickinson continues to set the tone, as he has committed just six turnovers in the team's 11 conference games while averaging 32.7 minutes per game.
