Finigan, Lacaze, Perry all finish in a tie for 17th

RIO VERDE, Ariz. — The Boise State women's golf team overcame abnormal weather conditions to finish the Rio Verde Invitational in a tie for third place, Sunday at the Quail Run Golf Course.

The Broncos shot 598 (298-300,+30) on the weekend, and finished four strokes back of Seton Hall on the team leaderboard. The tournament was condensed to two rounds after Friday's first round was cancelled due to snow.

"Today was a little more windy, so we had some trouble judging the distances in the beginning and couldn't get the putts to fall," head coach Nicole Bird said. "However, we made a lot of pars today which helped. It's been nice to get outside and get back to competing again. We've learned a lot these last two tournaments, and I think we're headed in the right direction. We are looking forward to competing well in St. George in a couple of weeks."

Tara Finigan shot 1-over 72 in the second round to move into a tie for 17th place on the player leaderboard. Finigan carded three birdies in the final round, and ended the tournament with a 36-hole score of 150 (78-72, +8).

The senior was joined by teammates Valentine Lacaze and Lexi Perry in a tie for 17th place, as Boise State landed three golfers in the top 25. Lacaze carded an eagle on Sunday, and shot 150 (73-77, +8) for the weekend. Perry shot back-to-back rounds of 75 (150, +8).

Freshman Cora Mickelsen finished a stroke back of the trio, just missing out on the first top 25 finish of her career. Mickelsen shot 151 (75-76, +9) to round out the scoring for the Broncos.

Alejandra Lobelo rounded out the Bronco lineup a stroke back of Mickelsen in a tie for 31st. The sophomore shot 177 (75-77, +10) on the weekend. All five of Boise State's golfers finished within two strokes of one another.

Boise State will continue their spring season at the BYU at Entrada Classic, March 10-11.
