Meet Notes

MEET INFORMATION

The No. 13 Boise State gymnastics (9-1, 4-0 MRGC) team returns to Taco Bell Arena for the first time after a month on the road. The Broncos face off with No. 17 Washington (5-4) and MRGC foe Utah State (5-6, 0-4 MRGC)

LAST WEEK
Boise State earned a win and a loss Sunday night, topping Iowa State 196.375-195.425 but fell to No. 6 Denver 197.725. Isabella Amado had a career night on beam with a 9.875 while Gabriela Bouza reset her career best on vault with a 9.850. Courtney McGregor also matched her career best on vault. The Bronco beam team once again put on the strongest rotation of the night, combining for a 49.450, the 10th-highest beam score in program history. Shani Remme led the team with a 9.925 and Sarah Means tied her career-best score with a 9.900. McGregor also recorded a 9.900 on the apparatus. In rotation two, Tatum Bruden led the Broncos on floor with a 9.850, while Maddi Nilson continued her solid floor campaign with a 9.750. Unfortunately, Remme landed awkwardly in her first pass and was unable to compete in the remainder of the meet. Boise State regrouped in rotation three after McGregor recorded a 9.900 on vault, matching her career high. Meanwhile, Bouza crushed her career high with a 9.850.
The Broncos finished the meet on bars where McGregor continued her consistency with a 9.875, good enough for third place.

WHO TO WATCH
McGregor has had an impressive upward trajectory during her junior season. With one more bars victory, she would enter the record book with the 10th-most wins on bars with eight. She has already reset her career bests on both vault (9.900) and beam (9.950), and matched her career high on bars (9.900) and is also the No. 21 all-arounder in the country this season. Means needs one more vault win to enter the career record book tied for 10th-most at eight as the No. 23 vaulter in the country. Furthermore, she's only two victories away from having the 10th-most vault wins in a season, which would tie Amanda Otuafi's five. Means is also the No. 16 beam worker in the country. Keep an eye on freshman Alexis Stokes. She has proven to be a strong bars competitor for the Broncos, already recording a 9.925. Stokes has yet to score under 9.775 and looks to add more events to her repertoire as the season progresses.

IN THE RANKINGS
The Broncos continue their top-15 reign in the national rankings at No. 13. This is the longest top-15 stint since Road to Nationals began publishing rankings in 1998. In addition, both the bars (9) and beam (7) teams continue to reside in the top 10. Boise State has remained the No. 1 MRGC team and the No. 2 team in the West Region all season.

NQS RELEASED
After seven weeks, the NCAA has released the first round of National Qualifying Scores (NQS). Once called Regional Qualifying Score (RQS), the NQS determines which teams will advance to postseason competition. The Broncos sit at No. 13 in the NQS rankings. According to The Balance Beam Situation,

"The [NQS] is calculated by taking a team's top six scores from the season, of which at least three must have been scored on the road, removing the high score, and averaging the remaining five."

CONFERENCE HONORS
A Bronco gymnast has received an MRGC honor in each of the last seven weeks. For week seven, Courtney McGregor was named Gymnast of the Week. This is the fifth time in seven weeks a Bronco has won Gymnast of the Week. McGregor also gathered Vault and Bars Specialist of the week honors after her solid performance on Sunday. Remme earned the title of Beam Specialist of the Week after her 9.925 on beam.

SERIES HISTORY
Washington leads the all-time series over the Broncos 42-18, but the Blue and Orange topped the Huskies in their last meeting in March 2018. Boise State defeated Utah State on Feb. 8 this season. The Broncos have won the last 19-straight competitions and are 46-55 all-time versus the Aggies.

UP NEXT
The Broncos have a quick turnaround at home for a top-20 MRGC faceoff vs. No. 19 BYU on March 7 at 7 p.m. in Taco Bell Arena.
