THE GAME: No. 8 seed Boise State (13-19, 7-11) will take a two-game winning streak into the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Championships when it faces No. 1 seed Nevada (28-3, 15-3) on Thursday, March 14 with a 12 p.m. PT tip.
WATCH: The game will broadcast on CBS Sports Network with Rich Waltz, Dan Dickau and Evan Washburn on the call.
LISTEN: Bob Behler and Abe Jackson will have the game on 670 AM KBOI and 93.1 FM KTIK with the pregame show set to start at 11:30 a.m. PT.
FIRST-ROUND WIN: The Broncos took down No. 9 seed Colorado State by a score of 66-57 on Wednesday morning, securing the team's first win at the MW Championships since the 2014-15 season. The Blue and Orange now have a 4-7 all-time record in games at the MW Championships. After the win against the Falcons, the Broncos are now 1-1 as a No. 8 seed at the MW Championships.
DEFENSE STEPS UP AGAINST RAMS: Not only did the Broncos hold Colorado State to a season-low 57 points on Wednesday, but they also did it on a relatively cold shooting night from behind the arc, going just 5-of-16 from distance. The five 3-pointers are the second-fewest threes that the team has made this season in a win.
BACK IN THE QUARTERFINALS: The game against the Wolf Pack will be the team's eighth-straight appearance in the quarterfinals, as it has made it in each of the eight seasons since joining the league in the 2011-12 season. Boise State is 2-5 in quarterfinal games at the MW Championships.
LOVING ANOTHER EARLY GAME: With the win over Colorado State that came with an 11 a.m. PT tip, Boise State is now 6-2 in games that tip at or before 2 p.m. local time this season. The Broncos were arguably at their best in stretches of the first half of the early game, as well, jumping out to a 33-26 lead at the half. The Broncos have held the halftime lead in 20 of 32 games this season.
SERIES WITH THE WOLF PACK: Nevada swept the Broncos in the regular season, squeaking out the 72-71 win in Boise on Jan. 15 and then put together a convincing 93-72 victory back in Reno on Feb. 2. The Wolf Pack have won the last six meetings with the Broncos and own a 46-27 lead in the all-time series.
Besides in-state opponents Idaho and Idaho State, Boise State has played Nevada more than any other school in program history. The Broncos and Wolf Pack – who first played against each other on Dec. 22, 1977 – have almost always been in the same conference, starting with the Big Sky (1980-92), then the Big West (1996-2000), followed by the Western Athletic (2001-11) and now in the Mountain West (2011-Present).
The two teams have met once before in the MW Championships, as Boise State was able to claim the 75-62 win in the quarterfinals back on March 14, 2014. The Broncos have never defeated a No. 1 seed at the MW Championships, as well.
PLAYING THROUGH HANEY: Boise State continues to give it redshirt senior big man, Zach Haney, more touches on the block and the Houston, Texas native has made the most of his opportunity, as shown by his fourth-straight game in double-digit points after scoring 16 against Colorado State in the first round. Haney is averaging 15.0 points and 4.2 rebounds per game over the course of the last four contests.
TOP-25 WOLF PACK, AGAIN: Having already played Nevada twice this season when the Wolf Pack was ranked No. 10 and 8, respectively, the Broncos will once again try to log a win against an opponent ranked in the top 25 for the third time this season. The Blue and Orange have an all-time record of 8-50 against opponents ranked in the top 25 of the AP poll.
The highest ranked opponent Boise State has ever defeated on the road was No. 11 Creighton back on Nov. 28, 2012, upsetting the Bluejays by a score of 83-70 in Omaha.
