Boise State Swim & Dive Announces Team Awards

BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State swimming and diving team has announced its 2019-20 team awards. The five awards, voted on by the team, went to Taylor Clark (Most Valuable Diver), Katie McCoy (Most Valuable Swimmer), junior Hayley Hill (Most Inspirational), freshman Anahi Schreuders (Most Improved) and freshman Martina Andrasek (Bronco Spirit Award).

Clark battled back from injury suffered when a team van was hit by a drunk driver in January 2019 to have a solid junior season. The junior from Broomfield, Colo., recorded career-high scores in all three dives and qualified for the first time to the NCAA Diving Zone E Championships. At the Mountain West Championships in Minneapolis she scored a career-high 260.60 on the 1-meter springboard to place 12th, then followed that up with two career highs on the platform to finish 12th with a final score of 243.65. McCoy was one of the top individual medley racers in the Mountain West this year. The sophomore from Phoenix earned two All-Mountain West honors by placing fifth in the 200-yard IM with a career-best 1:59.96, then followed that with an eighth-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke. She also tallied a ninth-place result in the 400 IM at the conference championships with a career-best time of 4:18.79.

Hill was named the Most Inspirational member of the team. Hill battled through the second half of the season with injuries out of her control and still trained and competed with a smile on her face and encouraged to teammates. The junior was one of the Mountain West Conference's top distance freestyle racers this season earning All-MW accolades in the both the 1,650 free with a 16:52.88 to take fifth and the 500 free clocking a 4:51.32 to take seventh. The native of Phoenix is now a six-time All-Mountain West honoree.
Schreuders was named the Most Improved and one of six freshmen on the team this season. The native of Oranjestad, Aruba, swam in nine meets during the improving with each competition. She is a breaststroke and freestyle specialist who stepped up in big swim meets this year setting her career-bests in the 100 (1:04.08) and 200 (2:22.22) breaststrokes at the Mizzou Invite in November, then followed with career-bests in the 50 (24.13) and 100 (52.91) freestyles at the Mountain West Championships in February.Â
Andrasek was one of two freshmen honored by the team earning the Spirit Award. Andrasek earned the award because she is all in with everything she does. She provides encouragement and support in every practice and is the loudest voice at meets. The swimmer from Zagreb, Croatia, competed in nine meets during the season racing in freestyle, backstroke and individual medley races. She peaked at the MW Championships where she turned in three career-best times with a 25.71 in the 50 back, a 56.31 in the 100 back leg of the 400 medley relay and a 2:06.79 in the 200 IM.
